Identity Breakdown

How Transgenderism Affects America’s youth

What’s the church’s role in helping GenZ navigate its identity in today’s disorienting culture? The desire to answer the question, “Who am I?” resonates with today’s rising generation. The culture pulls them in a direction that doesn’t align with scripture. To equip young students with a lifelong faith, we must help them think differently about how their Creator defines them. Dr. Andrew T. Walker, Dr. Kathy Koch, and Jason Jimenez will be our expert guides during this 3-hour event.

Event Schedule: Helping You Engage with Clarity

Dr. Andrew T. Walker | A Long Journey to Nowhere: How Transgender Ideology became Plausible

In this talk, Dr. Walker will look at the historical, philosophical, ideological, and cultural streams that have led us to the transgender moment. In his talk, listeners will gain an understanding of the subtle ways in which cultural forces work to produce new systems of thought that previous generations would not have understood. The goal of this talk is for Christian leaders to become more attuned to the underlying ethical shifts that forge new paradigms that challenge a Christian way of interpreting reality.

Dr. Kathy Koch | It’s Not Just About Identity: Securing Gender for a Broken Generation

Too many young people believe gender identity can easily change. We culturally have said it’s possible, and even acceptable. Yet, we know theologically that everyone is created in a specific way by an intentional Creator. Learn what we need to believe and what we can do to help secure people’s gender. We don’t need to just be sad, concerned, or angry. We can be proactive!

Jason Jimenez | Strange New Conversations: How to Talk to Your Students About Transgenderism

Whether struggling with their gender identity or receiving an overload of gender-confusing messages on social media, this generation is searching for answers. In this talk, you will learn how to voice concerns to your kids and students about transgenderism, bring clarity to some of the confusion, and gain valuable tactics when discussing the dangerous ideology of the transgender movement.

Jason Jimenez, Dr. Kathy Koch, and Erin Kunkle | Panel Discussion

The speakers will be answering questions from both those attending live online and questions submitted through registration.

Dr. Kathy Koch | What? So What? Now What?
Because you attended, you will be equipped with wisdom and new understandings. You will have new ideas that will result in new feelings and important reactions. Now, what difference can you make and what will you do? Let’s end with an optimistic look at your future!

Discussion and Reflection Questions

The questions below are designed to help you get the most out of this event. If you are watching with a few people, discuss the questions together. If you are watching alone, reflect and think about the questions. Or gather some friends or co-workers and watch this event as a group.

Dr. Andrew T. Walker

  1. Where have you seen the idea of expressive individualism pop up in your own context?
  2. How would you differentiate sex from gender? Should they be differentiated?

Dr. Kathy Koch

  1. What are some beliefs you cling to about God and yourself related to security or identity? Have you successfully convinced others that they can believe the same things? What worked? Or what might work?
  2. What is a major identity lie young people believe? What’s the truth they need to believe instead? Knowing that going from their lie to your truth usually isn’t easy, what are some prerequisite beliefs they need to believe before this bigger lie can be reversed by truth? Think about what beliefs lead to bigger beliefs. For instance, before young women can believe they were created on purpose, could they believe that their brothers, sisters, or best friends were? Then could they believe it for themselves?

Jason Jimenez

  1. Where in the Bible would you go to talk to kids or students about transgenderism?
  2. How would you go about talking to someone struggling with gender dysphoria?
  3. Do you feel it’s okay to refer to a trans person by their preferred pronouns even though you don’t affirm or approve of their sexual stance?

Final Session

  1. What have you learned from this Basecamp that you want to remember and apply to your life?
  2. What are your 3 biggest takeaways from this event? How are you going to implement those in your life and with your students?
