Learn How To Become a Pro-Life Apologist
With examples like the Kermit Gosnell trial showing us the disturbing reality of the abortion culture, we can expect organizations like Planned Parenthood and NARAL to change their talking points on abortion. Despite the fact that Gosnell represents the murderous and barbaric outcome of abortion-on-demand, expect to be told the issue isn't so clear.
In fact, one of the new talking points for pro-aborts is this: Abortion isn't as simple as being pro-choice or pro-life. "It's complicated."
Don't fall for it. Life Training Institute President Scott Klusendorf is one of Summit's most popular speakers, and he'll be featured at our upcoming Engage conference in Minneapolis, put on with our partners at WORLD Magazine. He teaches students that abortion really boils down to one key issue: are the unborn human?
Scott offers some key steps for all of us to become effective and winsome pro-life activists in five minutes or less:
- Clarify the issue. Abortion advocates say the issue is about protecting a woman's right to do as she pleases with her body. Those of us on the pro-life side say the issue is about protecting the human being inside that woman. If the unborn are not human, there is no moral problem with abortion. So, the key question to answer is: are the unborn human?
Defend your pro-life position with science and philosophy. "Scientifically, we know that from the earliest stages of development, the unborn are distinct, living, and whole human beings," Scott says. Science demonstrates this.
Philosophically, the only differences between the unborn are Size, Level of dependency, Environment, and Degree of dependency, or SLED. Differences in any of these factors don't make the unborn less-than-human.
- Challenge your listeners to be intellectually honest. Ask tough questions and don't accept lazy answers.
Scott also teaches effective pro-life tactics like "Trot Out the Toddler," which put a human face on the scourge of abortion.
If you want to learn more from Scott, hear him elaborate on these strategies, and even talk face-to-face with Scott, consider coming to Engage in Minneapolis on May 18 We also have more Engage events later this year in Dallas and San Diego. Scott will be joined by Summit President Jeff Myers, WORLD Editor-in-Chief Marvin Olasky, Colson Center Fellow John Stonestreet, Manhattan Declaration Executive Director Eric Teetsel, and more.
In addition to hearing the best pro-life apologetic strategies around, you'll also learn why a robust defense of marriage is so needed, how to interpret and use media to shape the conversation in your community, and how to pass on the Christian worldview to rising generations. You'll learn how to engage in a post-Christian age.
