Session Descriptions

Session 1 | Why does Truth Matter? (Dr. Jeff Myers)

A majority of Americans—including Christians—now believes that truth is up to the individual. At the same time, we face an epidemic of aimlessness and anxiety. It’s no coincidence. The good news is that Truth really exists, and it changes everything. Based on his brand-new book Truth Changes Everything, Dr. Jeff Myers shows how we can be confident that Truth exists.

Q&A (Dr. Jeff Myers)

Session 2 | Relationships: Connecting the Head and the Heart (Dr. Trent Langhofer)

How do we move people from understanding the Truth from an intellectual proposition to and a heart transformation? What does this look like and how do we help young people care about Truth and be changed by it.

Q&A (Dr. Trent Langhofer)

Session 3 | Panel Discussion | What is True and How Do We Live it Out? (Dr. Jeff Myers & Dr. Trent Langhofer)

In this session we are going to get practical. We will take questions both from those submitted during registration and live that cover how to practically invest in the lives of students. How do you develop a Biblical worldview for yourself so you can also develop it in someone else?

How do we help young people understand the Christian worldview as opposed to the opposing cultural worldview? How do we bring it to their space and invite them into a worldview with a foundation of truth rather than whatever culture or power says it is?

Session 4 | How Do We Communicate Truth to a Skeptical World? (Dr. Jeff Myers)

Tough times are the best times for communicating Truth as found in Jesus. Dr. Jeff Myers shares inspiring stories of Jesus-followers who lived the Truth and changed the world—even in times of great crisis—in areas as diverse as science, education, art, and even the value of our everyday work.

Discussion and Reflection Questions

The questions below are designed to help you get the most out of this event. If you are watching with a few people, discuss the questions together. If you are watching alone, reflect and think about the questions. Or gather some friends or co-workers and watch this event as a group.

Dr. Trent Langhofer

  1. Our culture offers many artificial ways young people can feel love and connection. What ways seem most dangerous and toxic? What does culture say about these artificial means of feeling love? Who is working hardest at ‘selling’ love and connection to young people and what can the church do about that?
  2. We were designed by God to seek relief from pain. What are some ways you have sought relief from emotional pain? What are ways American culture says emotional pain can be relieved?

Dr. Jeff Myers

  1. Why do you think it is so difficult for people to talk about the truth?
  2. If you had one minute to share why you believe Truth exists, what would you say?

Final Session

  1. What have you learned from this Basecamp that you want to remember and apply to your life?
  2. What are your 3 biggest takeaways from this event? How are you going to implement those in your life and with your students?

Megan Almon

Megan worked as an award-winning journalist until 2008, joined Life Training Institute in 2009, and was awarded a Master of Arts degree in Christian apologetics from Biola University in 2011. Megan’s favorite part of her job at Life Training Institute — aside from sharing life-saving training material and getting to help students nationwide understand who they are and why they matter — is being a student of her craft. She enjoys following her curiosity on topics that relate to pro-life apologetics and is currently most interested in questions related to aesthetics; the power of great stories and how they relate to human dignity and the Gospel; the vital importance of true community and its impact on human flourishing: and human limitations and creativity.

Dr. Jeff Myers

Dr. Jeff Myers

Dr. Jeff Myers is president of Summit Ministries. As an educator and entrepreneur, Dr. Myers has become one of America’s most respected authorities on youth leadership development. Focus on the Family founder James Dobson referred to him as “a very gifted and inspirational leader.” Evangelist Josh McDowell called him “a man who is 100% sold out to preparing the next generation to reflect the character of Christ in the culture.” Through his speaking engagements and media appearances Dr. Myers has become a fresh voice offering humor and insight from a Christian worldview. He is the author of 14 books, including the Understanding the Faith, Understanding the Times, and Understanding the Culture textbooks which have been studied by tens of thousands of students.

Dr. Trent Langhofer

Dr. Trent Langhofer is a university professor, clinic director, and licensed counselor. For over a decade, Dr. Langhofer has helped young people – especially those suffering from the effects of trauma, abandonment, betrayal and substance abuse – experience healing and transformation. Dr. Langhofer’s personal journey and professional experience influenced him to develop a process that helps young people connect with Truth not just intellectually, but at the deepest levels of their hearts. By combining the latest research on cognitive adaptation to trauma, the influence of spiritual and relational attunement on emotional healing, and the theology of God’s love, Dr. Langhofer clarifies why young people should care about Truth, and how they can be changed by it. Trent is also a teaching pastor at Trace Church in Colorado Springs.
