Summit Ministries’ Conference Kicks Off with NY Times No. 1 Best-Selling Author Eric Metaxas

Metaxas Issues Strong, Humorous Challenge at National Prayer Breakfast and Promises Lively Keynote at Summit Feb. 26 Conference in Colorado Springs

Manitou Springs, Colo.—The first adult Christian worldview education conference in Summit Ministries’ 50th anniversary year will feature a presentation by best-selling author Eric Metaxas on February 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Woodmen Valley Chapel in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Metaxas will kick off Summit’s adult conference, running Feb. 26 through March 2 at Glen Eyrie. He is the author of the New York Times No. 1 bestseller Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy, as well as more than 30 other books. He has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, NPR, FoxNews and Christianity Today.

It takes a special person to not only respectfully comment about a sitting President while in his presence, but also speak convictions that challenge his policies. As a featured speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast last Thursday, Metaxas did exactly this, while managing to keep the president – and the 4,000 attendees – laughing uproariously while simultaneously making a compelling case for God, Christ, prayer, and the vast contributions authentic Christianity has made to the world.

America is taking notice of emerging leaders like Eric Metaxas, and the Colorado Springs event co-sponsored by Summit Ministries and Woodmen Valley Chapel will provide a chance to hear him speak. Metaxas’ topic will focus on what Americans can learn from the courage of World War Two German martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

“Eric Metaxas represents a new breed of evangelical leader,” says Dr. Jeff Myers, president of Summit Ministries. “He is disarmingly vulnerable and funny, and yet he speaks the truth clearly and boldly. Having Eric with us for the kick-off of our 50th anniversary celebration is a great way to honor the life-long work of Summit founder David Noebel and at the same time look to the future of preparing young Christians to be courageous and to lead with integrity in our troubled times,” says Myers.

Metaxas’ resume is anything but conventional. His biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer recently hit the number one spot on the New York Times Book List, a rarity for evangelical books. But he’s also written children’s books and once worked as a writer for the Christian children’s comedy series VeggieTales. Metaxas inspires high level thinking as well. A New York City resident, Metaxas has for the past five years sponsored Socrates in the City, a popular cultural event that brings the city’s elite together at prestigious clubs to listen to and dialogue with top Christian intellectuals.

Metaxas’ presentation serves as the kick-off for Summit Ministries’ Winter Conference for Adults at Navigator’s Glen Eyrie Castle. It is free and available first-come, first-served at Woodmen Valley Chapel’s main sanctuary. The conference is sold out, but a limited number of day passes are available at http://gleneyrie.org/summit. At the Summit conference Metaxas will be joined by a faculty of Christian philosophers and apologists to address a variety of timely topics, including: understanding, living and teaching biblical worldview in a compelling way; marriage under attack—how to restore a biblical view; answering the questions Christians hope no one ever asks; communicating truth to an apathetic generation; how to reach Muslims with the gospel; responding to the leftist social justice movement; and inspiring life purpose in the rising generation.
