Vice President of Finance and Administration

PAY RATE: $170,000 to $205,000 DOE

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Vice President of Finance and Administration leads the effective and efficient operation of the ministry support functions in a way consistent with Summit’s core Christian values and beliefs.  Specific oversight includes the following Ministry Services groups: Finance, Information Technology, Properties, and Human Resources. Also responsible for risk management, insurance, legal, annual business planning, and budgeting. Provides organization-wide direction by applying biblical management principles, analytical expertise and business judgment to support the organization’s vision, mission, goals, and objectives.  Works with Summit leadership to maximize opportunities for ministry growth and impact while conforming to biblical principles, mandates and Summit policies. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintaining a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Summit. 
  • Advance Summit’s mission; confirm Summit’s Statement of Faith and Statement of Convictions, and to historic, orthodox Christian teaching regarding behavior, speech, conduct, and lifestyle; uphold Summit in prayer.
  • Financial Management in partnership with Summit’s Controller 
    1. Produce accurate and timely financial statements for the organization in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other appropriate guidelines. Ensure that reasonable internal controls are in place to safeguard corporate assets.
    2. Lead the preparation of annual corporate-wide operating and capital budgets. Present to President and Board for approval.
    3. Analyze the financial status of the organization and regularly report findings to the President and other key management personnel.
    4. Ensure compliance in filing of all tax returns required of the organization.
    5. Monitor all investments and cash accounts. Ensure that sufficient operating cash is available to meet the ongoing business obligations of the organization.
  • Administration
    1. Lead the Ministry Services department’s development for sustainable organization growth and ministry impact.
    2. Develop and improve procedures across the organization to promote high standards of stewardship, integrity, excellence, and productivity throughout.
    3. Oversee the development of information technology systems throughout the organization.
    4. Develop policies and procedures for Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources and Properties ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of these support functions. Implement policies and controls to protect the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive corporate data and personal information of donors, students, staff, and customers.
    5. Supervise Finance, Information Technology, Properties, and Human Resources staffing including job description development, hiring, training, and performance management.
    6. Be the organization’s liaison with outside legal counsel. Assist other departments to identify areas and issues that warrant legal advice. Help bring resolution to these issues using appropriate legal counsel.
    7. Oversee insurance coverage on a corporate-wide basis, including general liability, automobile, umbrella, and directors’ and officers’ coverage.
    8. Provide special reports and information requested by the President or the Board of Directors.
    9. Lead the development of Summit Ministries’ annual business plan and budget in support of the Summit’s strategic plan.

  • Advanced communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels as well as the Board of Directors.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, an active prayer life, and active involvement in a local church.
  • Understands, embraces, and can clearly articulate a biblical worldview.
  • Adaptable to Summit’s culture.
  • Education: Bachelors’ degree with a major in business administration, accounting or finance required. Graduate degree or Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 15 years professional work experience required.
  • Certifications/Licensing: Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily in an office environment. Will be expected to travel as needed. Occasional weekend or evening work is expected.
