"My classmates and I took Understanding the Times as a class in high school, and the vast majority of us would heartily agree that it was the best class we've ever taken. I will be a senior in college next year, and to date, I've never taken a class I learned more in or enjoyed more than Understanding the Times. Not only is the information in the curriculum educational and perfect for the world we're living in, but it is also absolutely life-changing. The amazing thing about this series is the ability of the content to impact so many aspects of our lives—an entire worldview."
Laura Wagner, student
"I never would have thought in a million years that this would have been the direction I would be taking. But the information and skills I am learning and then imparting to these kids are life-changing!"
Tracy Britton, student
"Thank you for standing for the truth and seeking to help young people know and defend the truth.
Barton Carlson, student
"One of the stated goals of our school is to instill in our students a 'Christ-centered worldview.' In order to achieve that goal, we have established the Understanding the Times curriculum as a foundational course in our 12th grade Bible curriculum. We feel that this study gives our students the valuable knowledge and tools they need to take on the secular worldview that they will face as they go on to college and into the work force. Our goal is to send out warriors for Christ equipped to storm the gates of Hell and claim victory over Satan's schemes in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that the Understanding the Times study helps us prepare those 'warriors for Christ.' Thanks for making this tool available to us."
Douglas Raines, Ambassadors for Christ Academy teacher
"Ideas have power. My students can now see the power of the competing worldviews. Most importantly, they now see how the Christian worldview is true and comprehensively relevant to their lives and the world in which they live. Thank you for giving us this curriculum!"
Mrs. Ruth Brown, North Idaho Christian School teacher
"The Understanding the Times curriculum has raised our student awareness of problems and issues from a 'my' and 'I' level to a local and national level. We saw kids change into responsible citizens."
Thomas Burkman, Tri-Unity Christian High School teacher
"Understanding the Times hits the issue of our worldview head-on, the way our students want and desperately need."
Mark Hines, First Baptist Academy teacher
"I learned so much from the course! It equipped me for today's society in the US as well as in Germany! After the course, it was easier to identify New Age, Marxist, and Secular Humanist worldviews. It was easier to see their assumptions and their ideals."Have a thought you want share?

- 1. Why is it important to teach worldview thinking?
- Christians need to understand that the truth of God's word applies to all of life. They need to be able to discern truth from error, whether sitting in a university classroom or watching the evening news.
- 2. What is the goal of this curriculum?
- The first goal is defensive. We want to protect Christian youth from deception by anti-Christian worldviews. A recent UCLA dissertation showed that of the college freshmen who identified themselves as "born-again" when they entered college, only 50% identified themselves that way when they graduated!
- The second goal is offensive. We want to train up Christian leaders who can actively champion the truth of Christianity in a culture of relativism, paganism, hedonism and confusion.
- 3. What training is required to teach this class?
- The key components for a successful teacher are a heart-felt vision for worldview thinking and a willingness to invest time and energy in communicating that vision. The video format, along with the discussions and projects, makes it simple to teach the course without extensive background or training. However, many educators find they benefit from "catching the big picture" through the Summit Ministries' Adult Conference.
- 4. What materials does each student need?
- Each student should have a copy of the Understanding the Times textbook and a Student Manual. Students will find these resources invaluable as they continue developing their worldview thinking. The manuals are consumables while the textbooks are reusable.
- 5. Do we just watch videos?
- Absolutely not! The videos will communicate the information, but students need to interact with that information to really understand the times. So we've packed the Teacher Manual with ideas for discussions, review activities, integrating current events, handouts, projects, field trips, leadership speeches, term papers, readings, and tests.
- 6. Does this curriculum come without videos?
- No. A few years ago we helped ACSI develop a curriculum based on the Understanding the Times textbook which does not use videos. Summit Ministries no longer carries this edition because of the confusion it has caused having two curricula with the same title. Also ACSI will be slowly fazing out this edition. If you are an ACSI member school and are interested in purchasing this curriculum, please contact ACSI to place an order.
- 6. How can I place an order?
- You can do one of the following to order your curriculum products:
- Order online through our store
- Order via the mail (or by fax) using our printable order form
- Order over the phone by calling 888-638-9772.
