October 25, 2018  |  1 – 4 PM, MST

Opening: Brandon Cormier

We’re excited to have Brandon Cormier joining us as the MC guiding us through the afternoon sessions and Q&A. Cormier has spent the last 12 years serving full time roles in youth ministry equipping him to understand the heartbeat of today’s youth.

Role Models: Relationships and Modeling Christianity for Gen Z – Dr. Jeff Myers

Up to 70% of young adults raised in church drift away from their faith after graduation. What can we learn from the 30% who stay? Dr. Myers shares observations to show how churches—and families—can create an atmosphere in which the faith of Gen Z can remain vibrant and strong. The Bible often presents core doctrines in the context of a tension: truth/grace, sovereignty/free-will, etc. Teaching truth to hearts and minds involves engaging—not escaping—the tension between relating to students and teaching truth. As teachers how do we navigate the “boss” vs. “buddy” tension in a way that helps our students grow?

Q&A Session: Dr. Jeff Myers & Brandon Cormier

Dr. Jeff Myers and Brandon Cormier will spend a few minutes discussing questions about in the intersection of truth and relationship with this generation.

Identity: Helping Gen Z Understand Who They Are & What Makes Them Valuable – Mike Sherrard

Today it seems the only person we truly know is the person we are supposed to be. Thanks social media. This cultural paradigm shift has affected Gen Z’s sense of identity and purpose, and the church must be equipped to respond. Effective youth ministry today requires youth leaders to possess and pass on a biblical understanding of identify and value. This lecture will help by showing how the Christian understanding of human value sustains equality, anchors identity, and instills hope, and how this message empowers the younger generations to change the world.

Q&A Session: Mike Sherrard & Brandon Cormier

Mike Sherrard and Brandon Cormier will spend a few minutes discussing questions about identity and how Gen Z understands their value.

Short Interviews:

We had the privilege to interview Megan Almon and J. Warner Wallace who work closely with Gen Z students. They will not be present at Summit Basecamp, but are still willing to share their insights on the following questions (this will be the only part of the event which won’t be live):
• How Has Social Media Impacted Gen Z’s Identity?
• How Does Gen Z Develop Meaningful Relationship?

The Bible: How Gen Z Doesn’t Know What’s In It or Why It Should Be Trusted – Jason Jimenez

And what can be done to reverse this trend? In session three, Jason uncovers this “out of touch” reality plaguing GenZers, and offers proven tips that are sure to be effective in your ministry to young people.
