Curriculum Writer and Editor

Reports To: Senior Manager of Curriculum and Instructional Design
Classification: FT/Exempt
Pay Range: $45,000 – $73,000 DOE

Summary of Position

This position provides educational expertise and writing for the curriculum development team. This role is
responsible for developing and implementing instructional content and strategies with research-based
educational standards in Summit Ministries curriculum, including Building on the Rock, Walking in Truth, the
Understanding the Times Series, and other curriculum projects. The Curriculum Writer and Editor will also
support administrative publishing projects as directed by the Senior Manager of Curriculum and Instructional
Design.

Duties and Responsibilities

Curriculum Design

  • Collaborate on the planning and design of Summit Ministriesʼ new curriculum and revisions
  • Contribute to curriculum scope & sequence and outline design and planning
  • Participate in yearly reviews and updates of all curriculum lines

Curriculum Development

  • Write, develop, and edit teacher lesson content, corresponding student content, and support materials,
    including student learning objectives
  • Apply best practices in instructional strategies and implement research-based educational standards
  • Develop discussion questions and answers using the Socratic questioning model
  • Write and develop learning activities that support learning objectives, utilize brain-based instructional
    strategies for age level, apply creativity, and offer opportunities for real-life learning and collaboration
  • Integrate opportunities for informal assessment through the curriculum and develop summative
    assessments that measure alignment in learning objectives
  • Participate in the editorial process, review, and proofing of all new product development
  • Collaborate with other team members frequently, providing and receiving feedback through the
    reviewing and critiquing of drafts
  • Provide subject matter input and pedagogical expertise, seeking research and support as needed for
    accuracy and excellence
  • Provide timely status updates and meet the production schedule deadlines for all assignments

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain positivity and improve procedures within the curriculum development team
  • Complete assigned work on time with sensitivity to Summitʼs curriculum style, receptiveness to
    feedback with a positive mindset, and an innovative, collaborative approach to improving our
    curriculum
  • Support the curriculum team in project management tasks to maintain timeliness and an organized
    development process
  • Continue research related to content development, curriculum development education, and national
    and state standards to bring new ideas and strategies to our curriculum team
  • Complete and support other curriculum-related projects as directed by the supervisor
  • Ensure consistent brand image and communication to all relevant constituents, both external and
    internal

Knowledge and Experience

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum five years of teaching experience
  • Minimum three years of experience writing and editing curriculum
  • Bachelorʼs degree in Education, or a degree in English or Communications, with a minor in education
    along with teaching experience is required
  • Advanced degree or certification in Education, Curriculum Design and Instruction is preferred

  • Strong faith in Jesus Christ, grounded in the Holy Scriptures
  • Understands, embraces, and can articulate a biblical worldview
  • Passion for the mission and vision of Summit Ministries
  • Agreement with Summitʼs statement of faith and convictions
  • Expertise in instructional strategies for a classroom setting
  • Ability to clearly communicate editorial and writing concepts
  • Proficiency with Chicago Manual of Style 17th ed.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe products, including InDesign and/or InCopy programs
  • Advanced communication skills, organized, and concise reporting techniques

Working Conditions

  • Primarily an office environment
  • Team collaboration with many deadlines
  • Remote employees will be expected to travel to Manitou Springs, CO headquarters six to eight
    times each year
