The Postmodern Worldview
Postmodernism needs to be understood on two levels—as a worldview and as a cultural mood. As a worldview, postmodernism is characterized by a few key beliefs: There’s no “Big Story.” There’s only personal interpretation. Traditional institutions are broken and can’t be trusted. Right and wrong are whatever I can get away with. Resolution and progress are an illusion. Life is random and ironic. There is no fixed identity. No worldview is true so all worldviews are valid. John also explores what came before postmodernism—pre-modernism and modernism—and explains what characterized each period.
