The late C.S. Lewis said, “If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next. It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this.”
The past two weeks at Summit have been simply wonderful. Throughout the two weeks I have been here, I feel as if I have taken in a whole year’s worth of information. Here at Summit, we are in the classroom for more than a few hours. The days are filled with intellectual thought, engaging conversations, and hearing from world-renowned speakers. It is truly a training ground for students to go home and influence our culture!
Summit Ministries’ very existence is a response to our current post-Christian culture. They challenge Believers to stand strong in their faith, defend truth, and equip them to have a positive influence on the society in which we live in. Before coming to Summit, I was very confident of my Christian worldview and expected my two weeks in Dayton, Tennessee to pass by with ease. However, my time here has grown me in ways I could never have imagined.
The Time Spent
Proverbs 18:5 says, “An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.” In my opinion, my time spent in sessions and learning from the various speakers has been my most favorable parts of the two weeks. Many people will never have the opportunity to learn under the wisdom of many of this world’s greatest thinkers and apologists.
Furthermore, in the beautiful landscape of the Tennessee Mountains, we have the opportunity to engage in many thrilling events. From forming lifelong friends, competing in beach volleyball tournaments, exploring the streets of downtown Dayton, chilling with small groups, and to growing closer to the Lord in such a scenic location. The activities at Summit have been a timeless adventure!
The lessons I have learned during my time here at Summit will be a stepping stone for me to go in the world. A Summit staffer recently told me, “Joe, what you learn here will shape you as a Christian. Yet, it is not enough be a Christian. You have the opportunity to change the world with what you have learned here!”
I am now encouraged and equipped to go back to my home, college, and work. I would like to share a quote one our speakers shared with us this past week. “You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know.”- William Wilberforce.
God Bless you all!
