From Russia with Oppression [Guest: David Aikman]

Two major events involving Russia occurred in recent days: 1) the Russian military attacked Georgia, an independent and democratic country that was formerly part of the Soviet Union, and 2) Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the Russian Nobel Prize winning author and former Soviet prisoner, died at age 89.

Why should Christians care?

Russia's resurgence towards super-power status is not only of concern for geo-political reasons but also for eschatological ones. The Bible admonishes Christians to be alert to the signs of the times and David Aikman, an award winning print and broadcast journalist with special expertise on Russia, will come on the program to help us understand the conflict (war?) between Russian and Georgia.

As for Solzhenitsyn, he told the world what went on behind the Communist Iron Curtain and yet was critical of American hyper-consumerism during his 18-year stay in America. Collin Hansen, editor at large of Christianity Today, wrote a thought-provoking column on Solzhenitsyn and freedom this past week that we'll discuss.

Broaden and sharpen your Christian worldview as we take a deeper look at Russia and Solzhenitsyn this weekend on the program!

Not for Laodiceans: Sharing the Gospel in Iraq and China [Guest: Lt. Col. John Morris]

Imagine being married with three children and having to leave the comforts of home and America for your third tour of duty as a chaplain for the U.S. Army in the war in Iraq.

You will be the last person to speak to soldiers about how to be reconciled to their Creator before dangerous missions from which some of them won't return. You will even accompany them on some of these missions from which you might not return.

What kind of Christian do you have to be to share the good news of Jesus Christ when it could cost you your life?

This weekend on The Christian Worldview, you will find out when you meet Lieutenant Colonel John Morris, chaplain in the 34th division of the US Army National Guard. Lukewarm Christians -- like the ones described in the church in Laodicea in the book of Revelation -- need not apply.

After hearing from Chaplain Morris, we will move further east and discuss the summer Olympics taking place for the next two weeks in Beijing, China. Are the Olympics just about sport or is there a bigger narrative taking place? And, what would it be like to be a Christian intent on sharing the gospel during these Games in an evangelistically repressive country like China?

A strong stomach and an even stronger faith are in order as you tune in this weekend to The Christian Worldview!

Creation Museum Virtual Radio Tour

Evolutionists and skeptics, look out, and Christians, be strengthened! The Creation Museum is up and running and opening minds to the truth about creation, the flood, Scripture, and the gospel.

While I was in Cincinnati, Ohio last week, the folks at Answers in Genesis, who are the owners and operators of the brand new Creation Museum, were kind enough to arrange a tour of this magnificent indoor and outdoor facility and interviews with some of their leading staff like Mark Looy, V.P. of outreach and one of the founders, Dr. David Menton, researcher and biologist, and Dr. Andrew Snelling, researcher and geologist.

The Creation Museum is an absolute must-visit for you, your family, your school or church. I enjoyed my first visit so much that I returned two days later for a second visit and my Christian worldview was sharpened all the more.

How does one describe a 70,000 square foot indoor museum with fantastic exhibits, displays, video presentations, and a planetarium that gives truthful answers about origins? Well, you'll just have to join me on The Christian Worldview this weekend as I give you a virtual radio tour of the Creation Museum!

Economics Version 2008 for Christians [Guest: Dan Celia]

Every day, dire news is reported on the state of the U.S. economy: the stock market has fallen nearly 20% since October, the U.S. dollar is as weak as water, the real estate market is in the tank, gas and food prices are sky high, borrowers are defaulting on their loans, banks are failing, the government is contemplating bailouts, and on and on it goes.

What is going on economically and how can Christians be prepared to deal with it?

It's a good thing Dan Celia will be joining us on The Christian Worldview this weekend to untangle and bring clarity to all things economic, including your questions on the aforementioned issues and your personal finances.

Dan is the executive director of The Regency Foundation, a Christian financial ministry that "exists to help corporations and individuals plan, invest, and give wisely." And what's more, The Regency Foundation is a national sponsor of The Christian Worldview! Dan is also the host of the nationally syndicated Financial Issues Live radio program and the author of a devotional book on biblical stewardship, All For the Master.

Tune in this weekend for a biblical perspective on our economic situation and being a good steward of your God-given resources.

An Interview with John MacArthur [Guest John MacArthur]

Pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church and Grace to You radio and television joins me this weekend on The Christian Worldview to discuss his new book, A Tale of Two Sons.

The book looks in depth at Jesus' most well-known parable, commonly referred to as the parable of the prodigal son. But as John MacArthur makes clear, the parable is actually about two sons and a father that teaches us about repentance, hypocrisy, and forgiveness.

I will also ask John about some current events in the United States and Church: An Evangelical Manifesto, the election, and here's one, whether America's Founders sinned by revolting against England.

When John MacArthur speaks, Christians need to listen closely. Don't miss a minute of this in-depth interview with the leading expository preacher of our time this weekend on The Christian Worldview.

Atheists on Attack [Guest: David Aikman]

Greetings again from Wimbledon, England where I am still competing in the Invitational Doubles. My partner, T.J. Middleton, and I have lost our first two matches to a couple of good teams but get a chance to redeem ourselves on July 4th in our final match. Thanks to many of you for your kind words of support.

After last week's difficulties with a LIVE remote program, this week we're going to stick to the plan and play a pre-recorded interview I recently conducted with David Aikman, author of the excellent book on the rise of aggressive atheism titled, The Delusion of Disbelief.

Remember the names of these aggressive atheists: Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennett, and Sam Harris. We discuss their best-selling books and the charge they are leading for the hearts and minds of society in general and Christians in particular. We also go point by point through their factually inaccurate statements and how Christians can defeat their lies with truth.

David Aikman is an award-winning print and broadcast journalist (having been a bureau chief for Time Magazine in Jerusalem, Beijing, and Eastern Europe) and is the author of 12 other books.

In the final segment of the program, I will offer some observations on England and my time at Wimbledon.

Sharpen your Christian worldview this Independence Day weekend by tuning into The Christian Worldview!

Of Worldviews and Wimbledon

Greetings from the Player's Lounge at Wimbledon! I just arrived in London today to prepare for the Wimbledon Invitational Doubles which starts Tuesday, July 1st and concludes on Finals Sunday, June 6th. My doubles partner is T.J. Middleton, a highly successful doubles player on Tour in the 90's. (The Invitational Doubles is an eight-team doubles event comprised of former Wimbledon players.)

Our matches (minimum of three matches, maximum of four) will most likely not be shown on television but you can watch them online in real time on "Wimbledon Live". For draws, match times, court assignments, live scores, results, and more, go to Wimbledon.org.

And, yes!, The Christian Worldview will be LIVE and remote this weekend from Wimbledon (which is a southwestern suburb of London). I had quite a travel week which should give us plenty to discuss: After last weekend's program, I spoke at Summit Ministries' student conference in Manitou Springs, CO on Monday and then to the Broadcast Department of Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs, CO on Wednesday. I came home to Minnesota for one day to pick up my tennis racquets and now I'm in England staying with a Christian family getting ready for the "Big W".

In addition to some LIVE content regarding the church and culture in England, you will hear some interesting interviews I conducted during the week with Summit students and faculty.

Get your strawberries and cream ready--The Christian Worldview will be coming to you LIVE from Wimbledon this weekend!

Why Are Evangelicals So Easily Deceived? [Guest: Dr. Albert Mohler]

Albert Mohler is arguably the leading articulator of the biblical worldview in America today. Appointed the leader of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in his early thirties and credited with turning around the liberal-heading body, Dr. Mohler is a prodigious defender of truth through his nationally syndicated radio program, appearances on national programs like Larry King Live, keynote addresses at major conferences, and now his first book, Culture Shift: Engaging Current Issues with Timeless Truth (our Book Club selection for March-May).

In Culture Shift, Dr. Mohler touches on the many issues we face in 2008 America: Christian engagement in the public square, the public educational system, the Supreme Court, the softening of our culture, terrorism, torture, poverty, racism, abortion, same-sex marriage, and much more.

A book that is meant to inform and educate Christians of the biblical worldview on current issues in an election year is a worthy and necessary undertaking; that Evangelicals in significant number, according to polls, will be enthusiastically voting for a religious humanist in Barack Obama makes one ask the question: Why are Evangelicals so easily deceived? (And that is NOT meant to be an endorsement of John McCain or Republican politics.)

You won't want to miss a minute of Dr. Al Mohler this weekend on The Christian Worldview.

Father's Day Special: Interview with David's Dad

He'll be 77 years old this year; he's been married to my mom for 54 years; he's the father of four children and six grandchildren. He was born during the Depression, grew up during World War 2, married and served in the Army at age 22, became a follower of Christ at 26, and was a mechanical engineer by trade.

He's my father, Bruce Wheaton, and he'll be joining me this weekend on The Christian Worldview for our annual "Father's Day Special."

I'll ask him what advice he has for younger fathers, what he wishes he had done differently as a father, how to have a close and lasting marriage, and how things have changed in the country and the church in the last 60 years. I think you'll find hearing the wisdom and life experience of my father very interesting.

The annual Father's Day and Mother's Day programs with my dad and mom are always listener favorites. And on Saturday, you will have the opportunity to make a comment or ask a question after hearing this special one-on-one interview.

In Times Like These...Peace, Even Revival

Is it just me or are things becoming crazier in the world?

A 78-year-old man gets run over by a car and passersby ignore him for a minute and a half as he lies paralyzed in the street. Gas prices are sky high and we sit on untapped oil reserves in America. Global warming alarmists don't want us to have bonfires and scientists are seeking a "flatulence inoculation" for cows and sheep to stem methane emissions (I'm not kidding--click here).

Natural disasters are killing and destroying all over the world. A politician with the most humanistic of values, whose spiritual advisor is a racist, whose financial supporter is a criminal, and who has been endorsed by the terrorist organization Hamas could very well be our next president. People of the same sex are going to be able to marry soon in California. And on and on the stories go.

Are you concerned about the direction things are going? In times like these, how can one have peace in the midst of great turmoil? Could this actually be a time for spiritual revival and how would that happen?

Tune in Saturday to The Christian Worldview for an interactive program about the direction of the world and what should be a Christian's response.

What Does It Mean to "Fear the Lord?"

Last week, one of the most important points of the "12-Point Plan to Help Your Children Overcome the Educational System" was to teach them to "fear the Lord."
But what exactly does fearing the Lord mean and why is it important?

Does it mean that we tremble with fear every time we think of God or does it mean, as one Bible commentator puts it, that we view God with "reverential trust"? Or is it both or neither?

And by the way, how often do you even hear the "fear of the Lord" being taught in your church. I'm sure you hear much about loving God and God loving us but even a quick search of Scripture for "fear of the Lord", "fear the Lord", "fear God", and "fear of God" yields 122 matches versus just 49 for exchanging the word "love" in the identical phrases.

Consider just two passages from Proverbs:

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom..."

"...And by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil."

Growing in wisdom and staying away from sin are two of God's top priorities for us...and they both start with fearing the Lord. Apparently, learning to fear the Lord is quite important to God.

This weekend on The Christian Worldview, we'll discuss what it means to "fear of the Lord", a highly important quality for your Christian walk and one that will literally revolutionize your life.

12-Point Plan to Help Your Kids Overcome the Educational System [Guest: David Eaton]

In our current March-May Book Club selection, Culture Shift, the author, Dr. Albert Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, says in chapter nine that Christian parents need to develop an "exit strategy" from the tax-payer funded public school system.

Why? Whether it's the "Welcoming Schools" pro-homosexual curriculum taught at the earliest grades, or the Darwinian evolution and the atheism and moral relativism that results from it, or the blatantly anti-Christian values of pre-marital sexual exploration ("and here's a condom and the phone number for Planned Parenthood--your parents don't need to know about it"), the educational system has it's own set of "doctrines" that it wants your kids to believe.

Your kids, the ones that God has given to you, the ones that you are responsible for raising in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, are facing all this and more in the public school system on a daily basis.

And they haven't even gone to the real "Christian killing fields" yet, otherwise known as college.

Depending on which study you read, as many or more than 50% of incoming freshmen who profess to be "born again" will not profess that four years later. What are they facing that brings them to this denial of their faith and the values that you instilled in them, and most important, what can you do as parents or grandparents to help them avoid the "University of Destruction"?

Join me Saturday on The Christian Worldview for our annual graduation-time program on overcoming the humanistic educational system. You'll hear lessons parents have learned and my 12-point plan for parents that will help your son or daughter be an Overcomer in high school and college.

What's the Highest Virtue in Modern Evangelicalism? [Guest: Nathan Busenitz]

Ten days ago, a notable and large group of Evangelical leaders released "An Evangelical Manifesto: A Declaration of Evangelical Identity and Public Commitment." (Click here to watch the video of the National Press Club announcement.)

The following are excerpts from the introduction to the Manifesto: "An Evangelical Manifesto is an open declaration of who Evangelicals are and what they stand for ... to help clarify what Evangelical means in light of "confusions within and the consternation without" the movement.

As an open declaration, An Evangelical Manifesto addresses not only Evangelicals and other Christians but other American citizens and people of all other faiths in America, including those who say they have no faith. It therefore stands as an example of how different faith communities may address each other in public life, without any compromise of their own faith but with a clear commitment to the common good of the societies in which we all live together."

What is this Manifesto all about? Why is it being released now? What is there to discern in the document positively and/or negatively for Christians? And finally, what now seems to be the highest virtue in modern Evangelicalism?

Nathan Busenitz, Associate Pastor of Grace Community Church, author, frequent writer on Pulpit Magazine, and personal assistant to John MacArthur will join me to provide some clarity and answers.

Three years in the making, "An Evangelical Manifesto" provides great insight into the direction the drafters and signers desire to see Evangelicalism move. Be ahead of the curve. Know where Evangelicalism is headed. Tune into The Christian Worldview this weekend!

In the opening segment, John Stonestreet, executive director of Summit Ministries, will be with us discussing a disturbing "non-bullying" agenda targeting kids in school.

The Neglected Skill of Expository Preaching [Guest: Pastor Steven Lawson]

Expository preaching. In the vast majority of churches today, "exposi-what?" would be the response to the mention of this biblical preaching method.

If you're looking for reasons why America is beset by weak churches and weak Christians, look no further than the type of preaching emanating from the pulpit. What the Bible terms "pastor/teachers," churches now call "speakers" who are just as likely to tell a good story as they are to use clips from popular movies to make their point. A verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter treatment of Scripture, reading and explaining and applying the text is just "so not relevant."

The truth is: Sermonettes for Christianettes do not strong Christians make.

It's a good thing there are still men in the pulpit like Pastor Steven Lawson, one of this country's most well-known expositors of Scripture and author of many books, including The Expository Genius of John Calvin. Considered the "clean up hitter" at Pastor John MacArthur's Shepherds' Conference, Lawson brings an old school, Reformation-era preaching style and method to the pulpit that is not soon forgotten. (For an example of expository preaching, you can download sermons from Pastor Lawson at the Shepherds' Conference.)

Pastor Lawson joins me on the program on Saturday to define what expository preaching is, how Christ and the disciples modeled it, and why those entrusted with leadership of the flock need to get back to it.

Not often do we get an inside glimpse into the mind and learn the secrets of a great expository preacher. You will Saturday on The Christian Worldview.
