This Saturday is your opportunity to attend a LIVE broadcast of The Christian Worldview and then listen to nationally known speakers at Jan Markell's "Understanding the Times Conference 2008" at Grace Church in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

The conference typically draws several thousand people from many states who are interested in "understanding the times." I will be interviewing two of the conference speakers, Bill Koenig, a White House correspondent, about our momentous economic crisis and the presidential election, and also Nonie Darwish, author of Now They Call Me Infidel: Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel, and The War on Terror, about Islamic issues. We will also take some audience questions.

We are currently experiencing what some say is the worst financial crisis since the 1930's. The largest guarantor of mortgages in America, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, were in such financial trouble that the U.S. government chose to bail them out by giving them a $200 billion loan. Days later, AIG, a large insurance company entered the same death spiral resulting in the government again stepping in to bail them out with an $85 billion loan.

Meanwhile, Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers have declared bankruptcy. A struggling Merrill Lynch was bought out by Bank of America. All the while the stock market fell and rose precipitously.

What is going on, who is to blame, and what do you need to know about this?
Perhaps the weakest part of Christians' worldview is our ability to understand economics and its importance. Issues like fairness, taxation, work, freedom, and charity all relate to economics and the Bible speaks clearly to them.

This weekend on The Christian Worldview, Dan Celia of The Regency Foundation (one of our national sponsors!) and I will discuss this historic financial meltdown and strive for a better understanding of economics from a biblical perspective.

There's no doubt that elements of feminism -- the humanistic belief that men and women can and should have identical roles in home, church, and state -- has crept into the Christian realm and intends to stay.

For example: female teaching pastors and elders coming to an evangelical church near you; Christian homes with stay-at-home dads and off-at-work moms; and now for the first time in American history, a possible female vice president who happens to be a professing Christian and mother of three young children.

To all of this, some Christians yell, "Hooray!' Others say, "Not so fast." Still others aren't quite sure what to think. How about you?

This weekend on The Christian Worldview, Gary DeMar of American Vision and I will strive for biblical answers to tough questions regarding women teaching men in church, working outside the home, and holding vice presidential posts in government.

The last two weeks in politics were something to behold as the Democrats and Republicans each held their national conventions. Living here in Minnesota, I attended the Republican National Convention all four days and saw the speeches, the fundraisers, and the media punditry. I will tell you all about it on the program this weekend and give some behind the scenes stories as well.

Perhaps the biggest story of all has been the sniping of vice presidential nominee, Governor Sarah Palin. "She doesn't have enough experience to be a heartbeat away from the presidency." "She shouldn't be juggling a high-powered career with mothering five children, including a baby with Down Syndrome." And from some Christian circles, "Should a woman be exercising leadership over men?"
