The Democrats anointed their messiah last night at the Democrat National Convention in Denver.

Having heard from Michelle Obama on Monday, Sen. Hillary Clinton on Tuesday, former President Bill Clinton and vice presidential running mate Joe Biden on Wednesday, the "transcendent" and "transformational" candidate, Sen. Barack Obama, spoke to a packed stadium of 85,000 people last night about how he will "change" America.

He's correct, he will change America -- just not in ways that Christians should want.
Meanwhile, the Republican National Convention starts Monday here in St. Paul, Minnesota where Sen. John McCain will make the case that he would be the best choice for president.

This weekend on The Christian Worldview, we'll focus on politics -- why conservatism is most Christian, the faith of the candidates, and whether McCain's vice presidential choice is a good one.

Say what you will about super-pastor Rick Warren, but he certainly provided us an excellent and important look last Saturday into the minds and hearts of the two major candidates for president, Senators John McCain and Barack Obama.

What the mainstream media consistently fails to do in their debates in both format and questioning, Rick Warren did in the simplest of ways -- just sit down one on one with each candidate for an hour and ask questions that regular Americans want to ask. Some are considering this a turning point in the 2008 election.

Two major events involving Russia occurred in recent days: 1) the Russian military attacked Georgia, an independent and democratic country that was formerly part of the Soviet Union, and 2) Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the Russian Nobel Prize winning author and former Soviet prisoner, died at age 89.

Why should Christians care?

Russia's resurgence towards super-power status is not only of concern for geo-political reasons but also for eschatological ones. The Bible admonishes Christians to be alert to the signs of the times and David Aikman, an award winning print and broadcast journalist with special expertise on Russia, will come on the program to help us understand the conflict (war?) between Russian and Georgia.

As for Solzhenitsyn, he told the world what went on behind the Communist Iron Curtain and yet was critical of American hyper-consumerism during his 18-year stay in America. Collin Hansen, editor at large of Christianity Today, wrote a thought-provoking column on Solzhenitsyn and freedom this past week that we'll discuss.
