This past week has been "Earth Week." Time Magazine published a "Special Environment Issue" with a controversial altered image of the famous soldiers on Iwo Jima raising, not an American flag, but a tree. The cover reads, "How to Win the War on Global Warming." For the first time in the magazine's history, a green rather than red border frames the cover.

Inside and elsewhere, you can read and hear all the buzzwords of environmentalism: "Global warming," "Creation care," "Climate change," "Sustainability," "Alternative energy sources," "Greenhouse gases," and "Carbon emissions."

Alleged concern for an allegedly human-caused deteriorating environment that will allegedly cause catastrophic disease, hunger, and conflict around the world has become the unifying issue de force in politics, business, education, media, and religion. Mainstreamed by Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth", Gore has said "Jump," and we're responding, "How far?"

"How far" indeed? Evangelical leaders are urging Christians, in statements like the Evangelical Climate Initiative, to join the fight against climate change, or as they like to phrase the movement, "creation care." "After all," they say, "God wants us to be good stewards of His creation." Watch video.

Yes, the world and the church have gone head-over-heels for environmentalism. The question is, should Christians be going with them, and if so, to what extent and at what expense?

Charles Darwin's un-provable, untenable theory of evolution is surely one of the greatest lies ever foisted upon mankind, a lie that has corrupted the minds and morals of billions of people including too many Christians who bow in a kind of shamed acquiescence to the educated fools who propagate it.

Something came from nothing? Something exploded into an ordered universe? Unintelligent matter evolved into intelligent life? It would be funny if it hadn't led so many people astray. Scientists can't reproduce this crack-pot theory in the lab; no one's seen it take place; there is no fossil evidence to support it’s claims, yet many scientist continue teach evolution as fact and that Creationists are the ones with ignorant and blind faith.

The good news is that a just-released documentary film might help take back some ground. Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed debuts in over 1000 theaters nationwide tonight and shows how the intelligentsia, academics, scientists, and media suppress the views, speech, and careers of those who would dare believe in a Creator.

This past Wednesday, the U.S. Commander in Iraq, General David Petraeus, gave testimony about the Iraq war before the House Armed Forces Committee which included questions by all three presidential nominees, Senators John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama. In a nutshell, Gen. Petraeus said the troop surge implemented in 2007 has helped stability in Iraq and that careful troop reductions will occur throughout the summer followed by a 45-day evaluation period. Troop reductions aside, professing Christians have a wide range of perspectives on the war in Iraq, specifically, and war in general. On the far left side, some Christians believe in pacifism — that war is always wrong and that Christians should never serve in the military. On the far right side, some Christians hold what is known as the neo-conservative view — that the American military should be used to not only defend the homeland and our allies but to also bring freedom and end tyranny in far-reaching parts of the globe. And of course there are plenty of views Christians take between these two extremes. Some have their reasons why it is a good thing we're in Iraq; others think it very unwise and want to exit immediately. But, what is the biblical view of war? And, what should Christians think about the current war in Iraq? Her name is instantly recognizable and revered around the world. She is deemed by many to be the most influential woman in the world. Her television show is the highest rated program in the history of television. Forbes Magazine lists her as the world's only black billionaire. Her name is Oprah Winfrey and she has become far more than a multi-media personality and business empire — she is the life leader for millions of people around the globe. Health, relationships, politics, spirituality, you name it, when Oprah talks, people listen ... and follow. It's that last bit about spirituality that has many Christians either confused or concerned (while some, sadly, don't even notice). Raised by a poor, unwed mother and having attended a black church in Mississippi, Oprah is a professing Christian who doesn't exactly hold to what biblical Christians would consider, well, biblical views ... to put it mildly. In fact, you could say she's promoting a whole new gospel, the gospel according to Oprah. But then again, Oprah seems like a good person: she is one of the most philanthropic people in the world, she has a school for underprivileged girls in South Africa, and she empathizes with the downcast and oppressed. Perhaps Christians shouldn't be so critical of a "few doctrinal differences" and just accept the sum total of the woman.
