Pastor Joel Hunter's new book, A New Kind of Conservative paints traditional evangelicals as angry, uncaring, and usurpers of God's creation. As an alternative, Hunter proposes a more "government-centered" approach. But wait a second, are evangelicals like Dr. James Dobson and the late Jerry Falwell - and those of us who mostly agree with them - as uncompassionate and too narrowly focused as Hunter suggests? Hmmm, last time I checked, Jesus commanded His followers - the church - to care for the poor, heal the sick, and care for the creation — not the secular government! On The Christian Worldview this weekend, we’ll discuss the following assertion: Why "compassionate conservatism" is neither compassionate nor conservative nor Christian. Get ready to have your Christian worldview sharpened; don’t miss this important program.

Christians and Gluttony: An Oversized, Underreported Problem
The dictionary defines "gluttony" as simply: "Excess in eating or drinking." Do you think there's a little bit of that going on in the American church today? Gluttony is condemned in Scripture as sin. The opposite of gluttony is temperance, or self-control, the final fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22. Is gluttony all about food, drink, and the size of the waistline? What exactly does it mean to be temperate? Grab a doughnut and tune in this weekend for a discussion on gluttony, the oversized, underreported problem in the American church.

Liberation Theology: Its Roots and Its Relevance to Today
Liberation theology contends that Christ came not only to redeem mankind but to liberate the oppressed from poverty, racism, and injustice and that Christians should use whatever means necessary - political, religious, even violence - to liberate the oppressed of the world. The Catholic Church used liberation theology to gain influence in Latin America, and today, Protestant leaders like Tony Campolo, Jim Wallis, Brian McClaren, even Rick Warren, use principles of liberation theology to further their campaigns against poverty, disease, and climate change. It’s widely known that Obama is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, a church that focuses on Black liberation theology. Tune in this weekend for a discussion of liberation theology and a very special interview with Viking great, Wally Hilgenberg, who will talk about how his faith in Christ has sustained him in the midst of a very difficult health challenge.

2008 Forecast: Turbulent Seas yet Not without Anchor
Everyone likes to make predictions! And that’s what we're going to do this weekend on The Christian Worldview on our annual year-beginning "Forecast" program. Here we stand at the first weekend of 2008: what’s your "forecast" for the year, what do you think will be the major stories in the world, the country, and the church? No one can predict the future but Jesus called for Christians to be able to discern the signs of the times. Tune in this weekend to The Christian Worldview and get a jump start on discerning the times in 2008!
