Countering Culture
"I want to thank you and your organization for being faithful to the Great Commission by producing EXACTLY what I was looking for to teach my youth group. Finally, some solid training materials!!! You guys are a godsend. Thank you very, very much."
Bodie Quirk
"Countering Culture meets three urgent needs in today's church. First, Christian students desperately need to know why they believe what they believe. Second, adults need realistic ideas for touching the hearts and minds of their children. And third, Christians of all ages need practical ways for engaging their non-believing friends with God's truth. After ten years of intensive research and face-to-face interviews with over 4,000 teenagers, I'm convinced this study is crucial for passing our faith on to the next generation. I consider Summit Ministries to be the premier organization for training Christians to think in terms of a total world and life view. Through this study material, you will benefit from Summit's expertise."
Josh McDowell, Josh McDowell Ministries
"The Worldviews in Focus Bible studies do a masterful job..."
Chuck Colson, Prison Fellowship
"Church Curriculum Worldview Training prepared by Summit Ministries is probably the finest single tool that I have seen to help people in the churches grasp what it means to "think Christian." There are probably few greater needs today in our churches....this is one curriculum [every] church [should] definitely use—and that sooner than later."
Paige Patterson, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary
"Clear, concise and compelling - I would that all in America could be challenged by these materials, especially students...I am ever more grateful for the solid biblical foundation under girding all of these materials. I commend them highly."
Dr. Adrian Rogers, Bellevue Baptist Church
"This course serves as a follow-up to Thinking Like A Christian, although it can be used on its own. As with the first course, Summit Ministries has worked with Broadman & Holman Publishers to come up with another very affordable and flexible worldview course that can be used by homeschoolers, youth groups, college classes, or adult groups. Countering Culture
- 1. Why is it important to teach worldview thinking?
- Christians need to understand that the truth of God's word applies to all of life. They need to be able to discern truth from error, whether sitting in a university classroom or watching the evening news.
- 2. What is the goal of this curriculum?
- The goal is to teach students the ideas that are shaping our culture and provides an understanding of "why" our society is moving in the direction it is headed. Participants in this study discover the major worldviews that are opposed to everything we hold dear as Christians—that of Secular Humanism, Postmodernism, Marxism, and New Age religion.
- 3. For whom is this curriculum intended?
- The CD-Rom that accompanies this curriculum has four separate teaching tracks: high school, college, adult, and homeschool. This study was designed for Christian Sunday school classes, weekday Bible studies, individual studies, and for a home school environment.
- 4. What training is required to teach this class?
- The key components for a successful teacher are a heart-felt vision for worldview thinking and a willingness to invest time and energy in communicating that vision. The video, along with the discussions and projects, makes it simple to teach the course without extensive background or training.
- 5. What Materials does each student need?
- Those taking the class for homeschool will need a copy of the textbook to read as part of their weekly assignments. (Note: There is no Student Journal for the "Countering Culture" curriculum.)
- 6. How is the video used?
- This documentary-style video supplements the curriculum components, enhancing the content of each lesson. It can be viewed in short segments of 5 minutes per lesson, or used at the end of the study as a review. It is a total of 60 minutes in length. Instructions for its use are suggested in each of the Leaders' guides.
