What Do We Do with Honey Boo Boo?
What do we do with Honey Boo Boo. For the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.
Apparently, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” is the next big reality TV hit. The show follows a 6-year-old girl, known as “Honey Boo Boo,” as she competes in beauty pageant after beauty pageant. And just like in similar shows like “Toddlers and Tiaras,” the real entertainment comes from watching the crazy family moments on the side.
I wonder if this show says more about this family or the American public who get such a kick voyeuristically gawking at them, often at their expense? How much has art devolved if the formula for another successful television show or music career is showcasing those whose lives resemble all-out train wrecks? If the Emmy’s are any indication, our collective tastes when it comes to art needs serious reform.
The ancients understood the goal of life to be the pursuit of “the good, the true, and the beautiful.” How will we pursue the good life as individuals or together as a society if we lack these categories altogether?
For ThePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
