Brace yourselves for another movie redefining Jesus. For the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.
Hollywood director Paul Verhoeven — who directed RoboCop and Showgirls — is working on a film based on his 2008 book Jesus of Nazareth, in which he claims Jesus was not divine, the crucifixion has no importance, and Jesus’s birth was the result of Mary being raped by a Roman soldier.
The obvious problem with Verhoeven’s theories is that they’re just plain wrong. They’re based on shoddy research, biased scholarship, and an inventive imagination. Countless scholars have substantiated the claims made in the New Testament. No one substantiates Verhoeven’s.
Verhoeven’s biblical “scholarship” is a product of the Jesus Seminar, a group of radical academics whose deconstruction of the Jesus of known history is considered extreme even by liberal scholars. They are only taken seriously by Verhoeven and ABC News. Come to ThePointRadio.org, and I’ll link to some helpful resources on Jesus so you can be ready to talk with your friends and family about this film. For The Point, I’m John Stonestreet.
