Underwood, Obama, and Heretics
That’s actually not what God wants. For the Chuck Colson for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.
Chart topping musician Carrie Underwood has come out in support of so-called “gay marriage.” "As a married person myself,” Underwood said, “I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love and want to marry.”
Like President Obama, Underwood is a self-professed Christian, and like President Obama, she explained her support for “gay marriage” by quoting Jesus: "Above all, God wanted us to love others,” she said.
This is exactly the mixed-up thinking I talked about with New York Times columnist Ross Douthat recently on BreakPoint This Week, which you can still listen to by visiting BreakPoint.org. Douthat’s book, “Bad Religion,” explains that American Christianity, and therefore American culture, has lost any sort of doctrinal center and instead re-frames commands like “love your neighbor” to justify what the Scriptures and the church have always called sin.
Not only is this a shift towards heresy, in Douthat’s words, but it actually isn’t loving our neighbor to condone what God does not. For thePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
