The Science Guy Needs Some History
According to the “Science Guy,” thoughtful Christians are holding us all back. For the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.
In a recent "Big Think" video, television science icon Bill Nye (“the science guy”) shared his feelings about those who dare question Darwinian evolution:
“When you have a portion of the population that doesn’t believe in [evolution] it holds everyone back,” he explained. “...Your worldview just becomes crazy...If you want to deny evolution...that’s fine. But don’t make your kids do it, because we need them. We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future. We need engineers.”
You may be wondering why believing that life arose through mindless processes is necessary to vote or engineer. I’m wondering if Bill Nye thinks Francis Bacon, Copernicus, Johannes Kepler, Blaise Pascal, Robert Boyle or Isaac Newton held us all back.
Christians might disagree about how God created the world. But that He did create was the foundation of modern science. Maybe buying evolution isn’t as important as Nye thinks. I’m John Stonestreet.
