The New Normal?
So if people are living that way, it must be normal? For the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.
The new edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the official list of mental disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association, will not include being transgender anymore. Rather, transgender people will be diagnosed as having the emotional disorder called gender dysphoria. In other words, the problem is not the person’s denial of the biological reality of their sexual identity, but the emotional distress they feel as a result of their chosen gender identification. Denying clear biological realities is to be considered normal behavior, but feeling badly about doing so is not.
The reason given by APA member Jack Drescher for the change is just as strange: “there is a whole community of (transgender) people out there who are not seeking medical attention.” Of course, that sort of logic also justifies any kind of odd, harmful, or pathological behavior that someone is able to live with.
The "new normal"...and new laws and policies will follow. For thePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
