The Bullying Anti-Bullyist
He’s supposed be against bullying, but that’s exactly what he did. From the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with the Point.
Dan Savage is a well-known columnist and creator of the It Gets Better Project, an initiative that advocates against the bullying of teens with same-sex attractions and encouraging those students to fully embrace a homosexual lifestyle.
But speaking recently at a high school journalism conference in Seattle, right after telling students to use birth control, he proceeded to take cheap shots at the Bible and Christians calling the students who got up to leave “Pansies” from the lectern.
So who’s the real bully? Look, all people bear God’s image, not just the ones we agree with. Bullying shouldn’t be tolerated by anyone, whether it’s aimed at teens struggling with same-sex attraction or students not wanting to be ridiculed for their worldview.
The real challenge to Christians is to live up to our worldview. As Robert Sirico said, we can be ruthless with ideas, but we must be gentle with people. I hope we’ll do better at not bullying than the anti-bullying expert. For ThePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
