Rapper DeAndre Way, aka Soulja Boy, apologized last week for directing an expletive in his latest song at real soldiers serving in the U.S. Military, while bragging on his ability to make money and get women. In addition to being offensive, the mixed priorities in the song are astounding in light of those who put their lives on the line for others day after day.
Even Way’s apology showed how short-sighted his worldview is. His excuses for cussing at soldiers were he didn’t like the wars we’re in, and then the predictable “all the rough things he’s seen,” – really? A 21 year-old millionaire has seen a lot? No, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about – especially compared to someone who’s on the front lines of a war.
Too many of my young evangelical peers make the same mistake. They’re quick to offer opinions about their evangelical upbringing and how wrong it was, without any understanding of church history or theology. They don’t know what they are talking about, and they give up way too much truth in the process. For thePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
