Practice What He Preached
I’ve said before how I hate that silly “Coexist” bumper sticker because of how it trivializes religion. Well, there’s one that’s even worse. It has a picture of Jesus and says, “Practice what he preached.” Under it, like the Coexist bumper sticker, are symbols representing 15 different religions –implying that Jesus would have embraced them all.
But that’s not what Jesus preached. As my friend Tom Gilson wrote on his blog last week, the only Jesus of which we have record insisted that He was the truth, that other ways were false, and that the religious leaders weren’t just wrong in their doctrine and their deeds but wrong to the point of condemnation. In fact, even Jesus asked in the pain of His prayer the night before the crucifixion if there were some other way. But, the answer was no, and He went to the cross.
As Tom points out, Jesus never compromised this. Neither should we. For thePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
