‘My First’

I hope “My First” is the last. From the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

MTV recently killed the idea for a reality show that would have followed young adults on their journeys to losing their virginity.

The network’s online announcement for the show that would have been called “My First” asked potential applicants to “tell us why you've never ‘done it’ before and why now's the time to ‘lose it.’ Please be as detailed as possible. We won't judge — the more you can share, the better!”

The show would have fit nicely with other MTV reality shows like the popular “16 and Pregnant.” Almost every show on the network, whose president once said, “we don’t shoot for teenagers, we own them,” has been reduced to a sick sort of voyeurism into the extorted lives of perpetual adolescents. It’s been an astounding decade of no creativity for MTV, and like watching train wrecks we seem unable to turn away from. Not sure if that says more about the quality of MTV’s editorial team, or our declining cultural tastes. I’m glad they canceled the show. For The, I’m John Stonestreet.
