Hey husbands, next time your wife goes to the Salon, think Denmark! For the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.
In the latest installment in the ongoing saga to remove gender identity, a bureaucracy in Denmark ruled last month that it’s unjust to charge men and women different prices for haircuts, so now all hairdressers must charge men and women the same. As you might guess, salon owners are furious and are appealing the ruling in court.
Now as someone with 3 daughters and wife, and who would regularly get a $5 haircut if I could still find it, I’m torn on this one. I like the potential personal benefit, but seriously how much further can we go to pretend that there are no differences between the sexes? This only shows how fundamentally embedded, gender is in the functioning of society. When we try to redefine—or in this case erase—what biology has clearly established, we won’t create equality. We’ll only create a different unfairness– in this case for hairdressers.
Let’s hope the Danish courts acknowledge the obvious here. For The Point, I’m John Stonestreet.
Hair-raising ruling: Denmark says that both men and women's haircuts must cost SAME PRICE
