Wednesday, June 27 (Session 3, Day 11)
I didn’t know what to expect when I came to Summit, but I was pleasantly surprised. We jumped right into learning on day one, and it was great to have my faith challenged in the classroom. All of the speakers were incredible, but a few that stood out in my mind were Dr. Myers, Mr. Stonestreet, and Mr. McDowell. They integrated a sense of fun into their lessons and were so hilarious! They kept my attention the entire time and spoke about deep topics in a way that was comfortable and made it easy to learn. I was never afraid to ask questions and found myself becoming more confident in defending my faith in just a short amount of time.
One of my favorite parts of camp is small group time! My group was often getting in trouble for running late, but it was hard to break away from all of the great conversations we had. My small group leader, Elise, was a complete blessing in my life. She made all of us girls feel so comfortable and helped to council each of us through our struggles. I know I have made some friendships here that will last me a life time.
Although this wasn’t like a normal session because of the forest fire that resulted in the entire camp’s evacuation, the staff and the community really came together to make our camp experience the best it could be. I wouldn’t change being evacuated for anything, except for the local families who were affected, because I got to see God move in a way that I never would have if we hadn’t had to rely on him for shelter, food, and many other necessities. This camp has blessed me in so many ways, and I can’t wait to share my stories with friends and family at home and hopefully bring other people to the Summit next year!
