Sunday, May 22 (Session 1, Day 7)
The Sunday morning sunrise came bright and early-- much brighter and much earlier than most of the students who signed up for whitewater rafting would have liked. We all loaded into the bus sleepily to head to Noah’s Ark Whitewater Rafting Pavilion in Buena Vista. We got fitted into wetsuits, water booties, and helmets as we prepared ourselves for the 39-degree water raft trip we were about to embark on. After conquering 10 miles of the raging Arkansas River and rapids such as The Meat Grinder, Pin Ball Falls, and The Widower, we peeled off our frozen wetsuits and enjoyed delectable PB & J’s. Who knew that sandwiches could taste so good after paddling for two hours? Upon our return to Summit, we relished in our afternoon of free time while the kitchen crew slaved away preparing our Thanksgiving feast. We engaged in a lecture on worship by Eric Smith and watched an intriguing video on Global Warming. The evening ended with free time before bed.
