Session 6 | Day 13
"The Lord liveth, and blessed be the Rock, and let the God of our salvation be exalted," a very common song heard during session 6: today was no exception. It was heard during our wonderful breakfast made by the kitchen staff. The day progressed with Dr. Noebel and his Bible Hour. Following Doc was a lesson from Eric Smith, a familiar face here at Summit, with great advice on how to explain our experience here to our family and friends. To go along with Eric Smith's encouragement was Randall Niles. He gave us ideas how to take over the technological world with a Biblical worldview. Afterwards we were served a delicious lunch, made by our wonderful staff in the kitchen. Not one day is wasted here in Manitou Springs. Today, the students could choose among several options for entertainment including, a tour of Focus on the Family or an adventure at the Air Force Academy. Yet many students chose to spend quality time with the lifelong friends that they had made. It didn't take long for the girls to start prepping for the "big" night--graduation. We had a wonderful dinner while the parents, grandparents, and friends began to arrive for the ceremony. The crowd started to file down into the classroom, finding their seats and snapping last minute pictures.
The ceremony began as any normal class time would with the pledge of allegiance to the American and Christian flag and the singing of Amazing Grace. Next, two fellow students gave their charge to not only their classmates but also to the families and friends. The introduction for the famous Dr. Noebel got everyone in the Summit spirit. Dr. Noebel again informed us how great our country is and the incredible things we have accomplished because of our Christian foundation. He continued to encourage each one of us to fight the good fight and to hold tight to our Lord and Savior. The diplomas the students later received served as a reminder of the job that must be done wherever God leads them.
The staff prepared an ice cream social for everyone following the ceremony. The endless picture taking continued while Dr. Noebel signed books in the lobby. Although it was the last night, there was still curfew that was lightly enforced.
When students leave, they usually announce that Summit has changed their lives. After this session, I would conclude that Summit Ministries effectively taught us how to put on the full armor of God and not be blinded by the deceptive philosophies that the world is constantly teaching us- as illustrated through the passages of Scripture of Colossians 2:8 and Ephesians 6:11.
