Session 5 | Day 5

Session 5 | Day 5

“We have not only been saved from something but for something and to something!”

This is just one of the many things that have been said to us over the past five days here at Summit. It is my second time being here, and I’m so glad to be back!  While rising early does not encourage our alertness, the excellent speakers that have so graciously come to teach us, challenge us, and share God’s love with us certainly do!  On the first day Dr. Noebel warned us students: “By the time we are finished with our two weeks here, your brains will probably feel like exploding and melting out your ears!”  While that didn’t sound very comforting, somehow we all knew it would be a good thing. We were right!  Many good speakers have already spent time with us: John Stonestreet, Dr. Mike Adams, Ryan Dobson, Dr. Del Tackett, Chuck Edwards, Pat Edwards on abortion, and of course Dr. Noebel (the beloved founder of Summit Ministries).  This morning, Kevin Bywater (the director at Summit Oxford Study in England) spoke with us.  He shared his knowledge on how to reach Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses in loving and respectful ways.  A former Mormon himself, he has so many good thoughts on how they think and how to show God’s love with them.

Although it is an academic (yes, academic) camp, we do have our wild fun too--grueling games of foose ball, singing songs on the buses, intense games of chess, and sports time, which provides lots of sunshine, lots of grass, and lots of fun!  Today was our second time playing speed volleyball, and everyone has caught on surprisingly quickly. Bump, set, spike is ideal, but here at Summit we sometimes play punch, whack, smack. The laughing and the cheers that go on during the games are never-ending! All around there is slack lining, soccer, frizbee, etc. going on. Arriving back at the hotel from sports time is one of the most ravenous times, and the food is fantastic! So an extra encouragement to those of you who are contemplating coming (which I highly suggest!): unless you stay in bed literally the entire time, you will definitely leave with life-long knowledge, lifetime friends, and a greater sense of who God is!  In this life, there are so many things vying for our attention, time, and love, but the only One who is worthy of it is Jesus Christ! Thank you for saving us from our sins, Lord!

Scripture verse for the day:

“Buy and do not sell truth, wisdom, instruction, and understanding.”   Proverbs 23:23
