Session 5 | Day 4
Yet another day has flown by here at Summit. Our day kicked off as usual with the enthusiastic bell ringing by the staffers at 7am, causing most of us to drag ourselves out of bed and use the 15 minutes before breakfast to try and make ourselves presentable. The day was quickly looking up as we were greeted with an amazing breakfast (as per usual with all the food up here!), and the usual buzz of conversation as we all got ready for another day of being challenged, learning, and of course having fun! Our morning routine continued as we rushed to get our rooms looking spick and span for room checks. Many of us also used the time to start the day off with devotions. For me, this has been one of the most encouraging things around Summit; being surrounded with people who keep spurring you on in your walk with Christ. A few of my roommates and I are working on reading through James together, and it has been so amazing to have other people to study God's word with.
The bell soon rang again, signaling the beginning of the first lecture for today. Doc returned last night, and we were blessed to have him doing Bible Hour today; both in the morning and again following lunch to catch up for the time he spent away the last few days. One of the people I was most looking forward to hearing at Summit was Ryan Dobson, and my expectations were not only met, but exceeded as he followed Doc speaking on conversational apologetics as well as challenging us with "are you going to follow Christ?" Our time with him continued as many of us spent our lunch on the porch talking with Ryan, where we heard about his surfing stories, his amazing family, and dating, yet still left having been encouraged and challenged.
After Doc's lecture following lunch, we were subjected to the one thing dreaded by Summit students; the bible exam. Although we were anxiously waiting to find out our scores, we were left hanging as the afternoon continued for some of us with doing community service in Manitou picking up garbage. The community service project is part of the excellence program, but many were also along just to break up the day by serving the community.
We arrived back to another amazing meal, followed by an open forum with Ryan Dobson on the porch until we were meet a thunderstorm thanks to the ever changing Colorado weather. However, the rain failed to put a damper on the forum, and we quickly moved inside to continue with Ryan's stories and wisdom.
Wrapping up the day we gathered back in the classroom for a time of worship, followed by Doc's series on worldview, and then a video on the worldview from Marx and Lenin. After fighting to stay awake through everything, we all tried to quickly file through the lobby to see the results of the bible exam, and as today drew to a close, many went to sleep with the satisfaction of having passed, and others had the disappointment of having to give it another stab.
All in all, it's been another great day at Summit. It's great to have Doc back, and we all learned a lot through him and Ryan Dobson today, as well as through the fun and conversations that have been had, and I can't wait to see what the rest of our time will bring!
