Session 4 | Day 12
On the first day we were told that we were in a leadership camp and therefore would be expected to act as such. What we were not told was the sheer amount of demonstration the staff would provide. The lectures and the time we have to reflect in the Truth are rewarding. However, the biggest influence on me in this whole experience is watching the staff interact with each other. Their passion for helping the students mature in Truth, their challenges for us to step up to a leadership level, is unlike any witness I've seen before... one that makes me not want to leave.
Rewind till the last Monday. I woke up at 5:30 am and stumbled down the stairs into the lobby. After inspecting the couches for which would be the least comfy, and therefore the best for keeping me awake, I collapsed down. Turning to the passage I was studying for my devotions, I began to take note to my surroundings. Behind the front desk some of the guy staff was talking with a girl staff member about modesty. The concern that the girl staff member showed towards making sure her fellow females, including students, was helpful instead of hindering blew my mind away. All I could think was, "I wish girls in my brother's lives would do that."
The following days were consistent with what I saw the first day. A genuine love and compassion flowed between the staff members, that I believe inspired the students to take part. What ensued was a community that inspired maturity, love and a thirst for knowledge. The students here treated each other differently than I've ever seen in a camp. The cliques that can normally form the first night must still be hiding in the closets where students frantically shove everything right before class.
Even now as I am typing this blog, three male staff members are conversing among each other, perching hazardously on a rail. Several girl staff members are collapsed on the couch. They are joking and sharing with each other, inspiring me to reach out and be tender with those around me. Out of all the things that inspired me this week, this takes the cake. The staff members here are living out the following verse literally, the way God intended.
"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. " -Matthew 5:16
The biggest thanks I could give to the staff, is to glorify our Father in heaven, and so I do. And to any staff that may be reading this, look up the Philippians 1:3-5 as it is just for you guys. Thank you so much and to God be the glory!
