Session 1 | Day 6—Summit is awesome!
Today our main speaker was Kevin Bywater. Every time I hear one of our speakers, I think of today's issues in a different way. It opens your eyes to a different perspective on the issues. Kevin Bywater spoke about Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses. He said many things that jumped out at me.
First, he started with a story: "Let's say there was a fire at a house and the firefighters were called. The main firefighter told the other workers to stay out and that everybody was out of the fire. But one firefighter thought he saw a baby still remaining, so he went back in the house. Suddenly, the enflamed building collapsed, and the body of the lone firefighter was found holding a life–like doll. The firefighter went after something that looked real; however, it was false. The firefighter represents the Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses. They are going after something that looks real but really isn't ." "Mormons use our vocabulary but not our dictionary," says Bywater.
Then Bywater challenged, "What do you think when you think of Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses?" We responded that Mormons were dedicated to their religion and usually have good families. We said that Jehovah Witnesses know their religion well and take it seriously. Then he asked, "What do people think of Christians?" Many immediately replied, "Hypocrites, selfish, and uneducated". Now think about that. Even though Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses don't know the truth, they are dedicated and obey their rules. They see us Christians say one thing, yet do another. We need to stop just reading our Bibles and start studying them.
Summit is a great place to get educated on different cultures, issues, and world views that are prominent and clashing in today's times. Send your friends, family, and kids. It will be worth the two weeks out of their summer. God Bless!
