Thursday, May 31 (Session 1, Day 11)

Thursday, May 31 (Session 1, Day 11)

Today was a good day here at the Summit. The breakfast was amazing as usual, thanks to our wonderful kitchen staff. I so enjoy eating in fellowship with other believers! Tomorrow is my graduation from the Summit. In some ways, I am sad, because I have made so many Christian friends here and do not want to leave them. However,…

Wednesday, May 30 (Session 1, Day 10)

Wednesday, May 30 (Session 1, Day 10)

This morning began with the delicious ladies’ breakfast, where we had fresh fruit and bagels. Who knows what the guys did... apparently running up a mountain at 6:00 a.m. is appealing to them! Among the guys, Jamin took the doughnut-eating record at the top of Red Mountain by eating . . .

Tuesday, May 29 (Session 1, Day 9)

Tuesday, May 29 (Session 1, Day 9)

Today was another great day at Summit! We began the morning by learning about Mormonism from Dr. Douglas Groothuis. He spoke specifically about discerning truth from error, what a cult is, and how Mormonism plays into this. Even though we were learning about Mormonism . . .

Monday, May 28 (Session 1, Day 8)

Monday, May 28 (Session 1, Day 8)

Room checks are a deeply rooted Summit tradition. As such, each day begins with an aggressive competition to determine the day’s winner. When my roommates and I woke this morning, we piled all of our mattresses around the door, creating a small alcove . . .

Sunday, May 27 (Session 1, Day 7)

Sunday, May 27 (Session 1, Day 7)

Here at Summit, some of us take our day of rest very literally, while others find it more refreshing to exhaust every muscle in their bodies. I would fall into the former category. While several of my friends dispersed for white-water rafting, rock climbing, or hiking, I enjoyed the additional sleep and relaxed schedule here at the hotel. I used…

Saturday, May 26 (Session 1, Day 6)

Early this morning, my alarm clock rather unpleasantly woke me up, and the sun shown through my windows to welcome a new day at the Summit. After a brisk run with a few fellow Summit students along the hills in downtown Manitou Springs, I returned to the welcoming Summit Hotel. We then went to the cafeteria to choose between a…

Friday, May 25 (Session 1, Day 5)

Friday, May 25 (Session 1, Day 5)

I have these sharp pains in my sides that are beginning to get to me. This likely has something to do with hiking this morning at an altitude considerably higher than my home state of Georgia. During the hike and despite the chilly temperature, I enjoyed God’s creation and was able to talk to my older peers about college. But…

Thursday, May 24 (Session 1, Day 4)

Thursday, May 24 (Session 1, Day 4)

Today has been an eventful day at the Summit! The day’s schedule began with breakfast at 7:15. The main dish was biscuits and gravy (some of the best I’ve ever had, I might add). The kitchen staff here are known for the outstanding food they serve, and they excel at their job, providing nutritious and tasty food for all here at the Summit. In our first classroom period of the day, Mr. Brett Kunkle, the student impact director of the program “Stand to Reason,? took the podium. He spoke to us on the tactics of defending our faith and gave us three main questions to use in practicum. These three questions were: “What do you mean by that?? “What made you come to that conclusion?? and “Can you clear this up for me?? Kunkle showed how these three questions could be used . . .
