Monday, August 29th (Session 8, Day 1)

Monday, August 29th (Session 8, Day 1)

Today was our first, full day of the Summit experience and boy did we feel the intensity of the top. Many of us still suffering from jet lag, jelly-car legs, and very little sleep, we woke to the joyful sound of abnoxious music and insistent shouting at seven this morning; inconsistent with my favorite Proverbs verse. A filling breakfast and…

Friday, August 26 (Session 7, Day 12)

Friday, August 26 (Session 7, Day 12)

This morning we woke to a bittersweet feeling. We came to the realization that, yes, this day was the last day at Summit. So the question for today was, what should we do for our last day of Summit? There was a very hard decision of either going to the Air Force Academy and seeing some killer planes, going to…

Thursday, August 25 (Session 7, Day 11)

Thursday, August 25 (Session 7, Day 11)

At the beginning of our time here at Summit Session 7, Eric Smith joked that at Summit it is sometimes the way it is with God - a day is like a thousand years. It certainly seems that way - so much learning, encouragement, and just plain fun is squeezed into every day! Our first session of the day was Bible Hour with Eric Smith, where he taught us another helpful Bible study tip: “Read the Bible in light of its major themes. Use the major themes to help you understand the minor themes.? He pointed out that most Christians spend much of their Bible time in the New Testament, although the New Testament is built on the foundation of the Old Testament.

Wednesday, August 24 (Session 7, Day 10)

Wednesday, August 24 (Session 7, Day 10)

Wow, day ten already! Time seems to have flown by. I woke up this morning not really wanting to climb out of my soft, comfy bed. But then I remembered there was something special about this morning - Ladies Breakfast! For this event, all the lovely ladies of Summit get to enjoy eating berries by the side of the pool…

Tuesday, August 23 (Session 7, Day 9)

Tuesday, August 23 (Session 7, Day 9)

Summit has flown by. At times it has seemed to crawl by, and at others I wondered where the time went. I think the closest thing to this time warp is the image of a vacillating ceiling fan: follow one blade in its circuit and you can trace its shape around the ceiling. But if you try to look at…

Monday, August 22 (Session 7, Day 8)

Monday, August 22 (Session 7, Day 8)

I question everything. Which I don’t see as a bad thing... necessarily. I am in a phase of my life where I am thirsting for knowledge, asking for wisdom, and seeking the truth. I am full of sin; sin that I don’t even know how to acknowledge. So, I am a broken skeptic... that has been taken up in Jesus’…

Sunday, August 21 (Session 7, Day 7)

Sunday, August 21 (Session 7, Day 7)

Wow!!! I cannot believe that I have already been at Summit for seven days. There have been some really great speakers during this past week. I came to find that this time has been both the longest and yet fastest week of my life. The in-depth discussions that not only go on during class but also at meals times are…

Saturday, August 20 (Session 7, Day 6)

Leadership! You know when there is this topic, that wherever you go for a while, you find people talking about? Well for the past three months of my life leadership has been the topic, which God has clearly and repeatedly presented to me. Let me give you a short overview of the events in the past three months in my…

Friday, August 19 (Session 7, Day 5)

Friday, August 19 (Session 7, Day 5)

The sun has set, the Nightwatch roams, and another day of Summit Session 7 has come to an end, but what a full and thought-provoking day it has been! As a first-time student from Alaska, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here in Manitou Springs. After rising in the morning to another beautiful day here in the mountains of Colorado,…

Thursday, August 18 (Session 7, Day 4)

Thursday, August 18 (Session 7, Day 4)

As the day began I was trying to decide between two different feelings. I was alternating between “Is it Thursday already?? and “It’s finally Thursday!? In some senses, the week has gone very quickly, but in other senses it feels like months. We’ve had some amazing speakers so far. Dr. Noebel is gone now, but while he was here he gave us some amazing teaching. I found what he had to say fascinating, partially because of his topics but mostly because of his presentation. He covered a wide range of material in such an engaging way that I’m likely to remember most of it. He hasn’t been the only speaker I learned a lot from though, which brings me to today.

Wednesday, August 17 (Session 7, Day 3)

Wednesday, August 17 (Session 7, Day 3)

It is currently 10:38 pm and I am exhausted. However, it has been a fantastic day! I woke up this morning, took a refreshing shower, ate breakfast, and listened to Dr. David A. Noebel’s concluding speech, “Worldviews in Collision.? After that, we listened to speakers Ryan Dobson and Dr. Frank Beckwith. Dr. Beckwith spoke on law and government, which was very interesting. I have to admit that there was so much information that a lot of it went over my head. However, I do have two or three hand-outs covering his whole talk and my own notes. Dr. Beckwith has an amazing vocabulary that greatly inspires me to become a philosopher.

Tuesday, August 16 (Session 7, Day 2)

Tuesday, August 16 (Session 7, Day 2)

Since this is my second time at Summit, I definitely thought I knew what to expect this year: information-filled lectures, amazing new friends, stringent room checks, and epic foosball games. Wrong. I blogged last year about how Summit defied my expectations, and I find myself doing the same thing again this year. Of course, all the things I mentioned are…

Monday, August 15 (Session 7, Day 1)

Monday, August 15 (Session 7, Day 1)

Today was the first day of the Summit for those of us here in Manitou Springs, and we’re already in full swing. After just one day, the Summit feels like a second home, a place where you are almost perfectly in harmony with those around you in a state of eager like-mindedness.

Friday, August 12 (Session 6, Day 12)

Evening, folks! Today was the last day at Summit, and as happy as I am to have graduated, I’m definitely going to miss it here. However, it’s too early to be typing up good byes, so let me start at the beginning of my day today. I woke up, late as always, in room 425 while my awesome roomies were…

Thursday, August 11 (Session 6, Day 11)

Thursday, August 11 (Session 6, Day 11)

It seems like every morning it gets progressively harder to wake up. This morning was particularly brutal. But the early bird gets the worm (or the shower), and after being woken up by some awful 80’s movie soundtrack and then a much better “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better,? I trudged downstairs to listen to Eric Smith speak on God’s intention for humanity as revealed through the Eden story. What really started weighing on my heart is the future obliteration of the sin nature.
