Friday, July 29 (Session 5, Day 12)

Friday, July 29 (Session 5, Day 12)

Today was a lot of fun, but it was a huge letdown as well. Today is the final day of Summit, and I think all who are here did not wish this day to come. The events of the day included the graduation, review/recap of the past week, and a LOT of free time for me as I did not…

Thursday, July 28 (Session 5, Day 11)

Thursday, July 28 (Session 5, Day 11)

First of all, this is the second session that I’ve had the amazing opportunity to experience here at Summit. Returning as an alumnus this year, I’ve been able to know what to expect and drink up even more knowledge out of the fire hydrant that is two weeks at Summit. To anyone who does have an opportunity to return for…

Wednesday, July 27 (Session 5, Day 10)

Wednesday, July 27 (Session 5, Day 10)

As the sun arose this morning, I awoke to utter silence. This may seem bizarre to all those who have been woken by the colorful morning melodies of the parade of night watch staff members in Summit sessions past, but this morning for me is different. This morning all those dedicated manly men who can live off of two hours…

Tuesday, July 27 (Session 5, Day 9)

Hello world, reporting here on worldview news! This is Kelsey, and I am excited to write my first blog! For those of you who don’t know, we have a special seating arrangement at Summit. Not only are we seated guy/girl (to make sure the guys shower), but we are also seated in order of age. The younger students are in…

Monday, July 25, (Session 5, Day 8)

Monday, July 25, (Session 5, Day 8)

Today started with the usual “ring, ring, ring,? of the phone alarm. As I unwillingly arose from my bed, I couldn’t help but think, “Wow… today’s the second Monday already…? Not a fabulous way to start the day out! (I’m simply loving every second of this great opportunity, let alone every day!)

Sunday, July 24 (Session 5, Day 7)

Sunday, July 24 (Session 5, Day 7)

As I rolled out of bed at 5:30 this morning, I dreaded signing up for whitewater rafting. I hated signing up even more when I found out the bus ride was going to be two hours long and all my campmates and I had to get us through the day was a bowl of cereal. However, once my group and…

Saturday, July 23 (Session 5, Day 6)

Saturday, July 23 (Session 5, Day 6)

The days at the Summit are long but go by quickly. It seems like only yesterday that I arrived here and began this incredible adventure. And now it’s been almost a week, and we only have a week left to take everything in before returning to our homes. They say that your first time at Summit is like drinking water out of a fire hose; most of it you get in but don’t retain. Today is a terrific example of this theory. We get up, scramble to get in breakfast, and are in our seats trying to stay awake by 8:00am. We heard from Eric Smith about the reliability of the Bible, from Chuck “Chuckwagon? Edwards about worldviews in Hollywood films, and then from Danielle Myers about masculinity and femininity and the differences between the two.

Friday, July 22 (Session 5, Day 5)

Friday, July 22 (Session 5, Day 5)

This is my first time at Summit, and I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of every day. It blows my mind that today is already Friday! The classes today were so interesting and attention-catching because we were encouraged to share our thoughts with our teachers who played “devil’s advocate?. It was stressful at times, but I can already see myself starting to think for myself instead of accepting what I hear as absolute truth. Both Eric Smith and Dr. Bauman created a very open and discussion-based learning environment which helped me discover my confusion about certain aspects of Christianity, the need to the truth, and the sloppiness of thought that comes from sloppy language.

Thursday, July 22 (Session 5, Day 4)

Thursday, July 22 (Session 5, Day 4)

They say it’s like drinking out of a fire hydrant. I would agree with that statement. I consider myself to be a slightly bright individual, but in the shadow of brilliant communicators and literary genii that I’ve experienced here at the Summit, I feel…dumb. (Although Dr. Jeff Myers claims it’s not a bad thing to feel dumb. It’s better to…

Wednesday, July 20 (Session 5, Day 3)

Wednesday, July 20 (Session 5, Day 3)

Today I heard the controversial words that no one else was brave enough to say to me before. The things that the modern world “DOESN’T WANT YOU TO KNOW.? For example, my morning began with finding out that black slavery was started by African chieftains! Well, actually my morning started by hiding under the covers as the Star Wars theme song blasted from speakers, and I was dragged out of bed to contemplate our world’s ideas before my daily caffeine dose. But it was worth it. Dr. Noebel spoke about the generation of Secular Humanists that are overtaking the United States, and how our traditional values have been...

Tuesday, July 19 (Session 5, Day 2)

Tuesday, July 19 (Session 5, Day 2)

After falling asleep last night to the peaceful combination of a cool breeze and jazz music coming in through the open windows, I woke up to possibly the greatest realization ever: coffee is actually a daily occurrence here at the Summit! Needless to say, my groggy morning haze soon dissipated once I filled up on pancakes, cantaloupe, and of course…

Monday, July 18 (Session 5, Day 1)

Monday, July 18 (Session 5, Day 1)

I came into Summit expecting a total different experience than what today held. First off, I was so tired I just knew I would fall asleep in the classroom. Fortunately I was wrong, the first speaker asked some really hard questions and had some really good answers as well. I found myself unable to turn away; it was amazing! I found myself thinking, “I’ve heard these things before but not like this.?

Friday, July 8 (Session 4, Day 13)

Friday, July 8 (Session 4, Day 13)

Words cannot even describe how crazy this Summit experience has been for me. We have seen sickness come through, been completely exhausted, as well as witnessed the proposal of one of the Summit students to his girlfriend! I personally found this very last day of the session to go so fast. I spent the morning meeting with one of the…

Wednesday, July 6 (Session 4, Day 11)

Wednesday, July 6 (Session 4, Day 11)

Welcome, readers! Fortunately the moods today at Summit were not reflective of the weather, or else they would have started cool and gone downhill from there. Waking at the blessed hour of 5:30 in the morning, the gentleman at Summit started their day with a brisk hike up Red Mountain, followed by doughnuts and a much brisker sprint down the side of the mountain called “The Washout?. While we were doing this, les femmes started their day with a delightful sojourn and meal by the pool.

Tuesday, July 5 (Session 4, Day 10)

Tuesday, July 5 (Session 4, Day 10)

“Ideas have consequences?, and as the second week begins sleep is starting to seem like a great, humble idea with good, promising results. This morning I woke up at seven after sleeping through my alarm. As I walked into the kitchen area I noticed signs all over the walls about something called “mancakes?. I found out that these are one of the looked-forward-to traditions at Summit Ministries. These mancakes were huge pancakes (approximately the equivalent of six normal pancakes) with M&M’s.
