Session 3 | Day 3a

Session 3 | Day 3a

Wow! That’s all I can say at this point! As cliché as this might sound, this has been the best experience EVER! The speakers and the activities have been amazing, but I have to say that thus far, the friendships I have been making have been my highlight.

Session 3 | Day 2b

Session 3 | Day 2b

My time thus far at Summit Worldview Camp in Colorado has been a whirlwind of new and interesting experiences. The mountains are an amazing change in scenery from that of the mostly flat Baton Rouge. The town of Manitou Springs is quaint, and downtown has been fun to visit.

Session 3 | Day 2a

Session 3 | Day 2a

Coming to the Summit has already been a great experience for me. I’ve met some amazing people, all of whom are very willing to talk, a big difference from small-town Illinois. Dr. Jeff Myers really inspired me with his opening lecture today. His main point came from Matthew 16:18: “And I say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.? Basically, God has given us, as a church whole, power to overcome anything. He followed it up with a concise message of the questions we, as believers, need to ask to better understand the worldviews of the people around us:

Session 2 | Day 13

Session 2 | Day 13

In attempting to write this blog post and capture the intensity of the past two weeks, I began to wonder how I can possibly convey in one post the knowledge, wisdom, and insights that have been presented to me in my time here. The fact of the matter is, I can’t! That is why you should attend a conference yourself…

Session 2 | Day 12

Wow! The time here at Summit has been an absolutely amazing experience, and I am only starting to realize how much I will miss absorbing information, having fun, and participating in all the rest of the unique opportunities available here. This blog entry is intended to be relevant to prospective students (and their parents) who want to know what to…

Session 2 | Day 10

Session 2 | Day 10

What an awesome day!!! Summit has definitely been one of the most influential things in my life so far…where can I even begin to write about the past ten days? There have been so many amazing speakers with topics ranging from Secular Humanism to Marxism, from accepting God’s will in your life to understanding pop culture. I have gleaned so much wisdom from every speaker and topic, but just a few of my favorites have been Dr. Noebel’s daily “Bible Hour? and “Worldviews in Collision,? Dr. Myers’ “Discovering Your Calling? and “Taking a Stand for Jesus,? Dr. Linden’s “Christian Leadership,? and Dr. Adams’ “The Purpose-Driven Christian? and “Economic and Cultural Marxism.?

Session 2 | Day 9b

Session 2 | Day 9b

Growing up, I went to a lot of churches, church services, and church camps. The people I was supposed to look up to were always perfect: they never had problems—or if they had problems, they had all happened in some remote and distant past in which I never participated and which I was never meant to understand. I still don’t…

Session 2 | Day 9a

We got back to normal today after having an activity-filled weekend. Today’s talks included one by Dr. Jeff Myers about stepping up and figuring out God’s plans for your life. Dr. Myers is an amazing teacher whose experiences have given him a deep understanding of life, and he is great at giving us the tools we need for discovering what…

Session 2 | Day 8

Session 2 | Day 8

Today (Sunday) was a day of rest. Some of us hiked up mountains, some of us biked down mountains, and some of us rafted down a river. All in all, it was a very restful and relaxing day—well, maybe not for our bodies, but for our minds. We have been thinking for six days straight, so even climbing a mountain…

Session 2 | Day 7

Session 2 | Day 7

Well, I’m not going to lie: my first impression of the Summit was a bit of a shock. My friends and I flew standby, so we arrived a night early. It was dark when our taxi pulled up in front of the pre-1900s hotel, so we couldn’t see any of the surroundings or even what the place itself looked like.…

Session 2 | Day 6

Session 2 | Day 6

We of the second session of the Summit of summer 2010 have officially been here for six days. Yet, I think I speak for all of the students here when I say that there has never been a dull moment. This morning started with Dr. Noebel’s Bible verse and thought of the day. The verse was Proverbs 10:4, which states, “Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring one riches.? He also added, “God made you to be you, and not someone else.? We all had to learn how to interpret Doc’s special words, phrases, quotes, and occasional pauses for passing vehicles, but once we grew accustomed to these things, we realized he had many good things for us to hear.

Session 2 | Day 5

Session 2 | Day 5

Today was the fourth straight day of classes, and the big news for today has been the release of the Bible Exam scores. Every student has been waiting anxiously to see if they passed or failed. First year students needed a 100 or above to pass, and second year students needed to get a 120 or higher. The results were…

Session 2 | Day 4b

“Is the point of our faith to bring everything into focus?? John Stonestreet asked this of the Summit students today as he began his lecture called “Christianity and Culture.? As a Summit employee on Night Watch, I spend my time from the hours of 10:00pm to 7:00am making sure the Summit Hotel and its inhabitants are safe. But today I decided to stay up past my usual time of retire to listen in on Mr. Stonestreet as he asked a very important question of the students: “For what are you responsible?? In a very unorthodox move, he began to critique the popular hymn “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus? by discussing the implications of the lyrics.

Session 2 | Day 4a

Hello world! Prepare for a quick summary of the thoughts going through my head: 1. This is the third day of my third year of attending Summit as a student, and the symmetry alone is enough to make me smarter. 2. Today started the same as most days here at the hotel: with Bible hour by the one-and-only Dr. Noebel.…

Session 2 | Day 3

Session 2 | Day 3

I was sure I didn’t want to attend Summit when I signed up, but I did it anyway because I felt that God was telling me to. What didn’t make things any better was that both days one and two didn’t really have me convinced that I had made the right decision. But today was different.
