Session 3 | Day 3
Summit is one of the greatest place on earth! Why, you might ask. Well, as a second time student, I'd like to answer that question or at least why I personally believe that statement. As a second timer I'm one of the few--I believe that there are probably 8 of us that were here last year, or within the last two years. The introduction to differing world views has always amazed me. Doc, as we all affectionately call Dr. David Noebel, treats every issue with respect and introduces information that many people have never heard about. We're having "more fun than a human oughta have" as Doc would say. Even though this is a "educational camp" we do so much more than just sit in a classroom and study. I would have to say that 98% of the time spent in class isn't even that bad! With sports time and free time rounding out every day, and opportunities to go into Manitou and walk around with friends, you get many opportunities to spend time with the friends that you've made and enjoy their company.
The learning opportunities present themselves even outside of the classroom, whether in discussions over lunch, in small groups or just on a leisurely walk downtown. The people coming to Summit come from around the country and even from around the world. The diversity of the students allows for varying perspectives on many of the issues that we discuss in lectures. With such a tight knit group, we are able to learn from each other's experiences and use them to help formulate what we truly stand for and believe in. I honestly believe that Summit has made me a better person and definitely a smarter one.
Coming back has been fun because I have been able to develop new friendships, as well as strengthen old ones. After my experiences last year, I knew I wanted to delve deeper into the material covered in the course. Coming back has allowed me to pick up on the details that I missed the year before, as well as learn new information that hadn't previously been presented. Even though it has only been three days of the fourteen, I have already discovered new facts and evidence that will help me present my beliefs in a better constructed defense. The staff and speakers are always ready to help. Whenever I have questions, they help me to answer them and to discern more about what I truly believe and how to support and defend it.
