Session 3| Day 13
There are no words that could adequately describe the past two weeks. This was my second time attending the Summit as a student, and I did not think it would be possible to top my first trip in 2005. Well, it did!! We had an incredible group of students of whom I was very proud to be a part.
Our last morning session with Dr. Noebel was bittersweet. I love watching his face as he teaches the Bible Hour with passion and that customary humor of his. (And I know I am not the only student who jotted down "Doc Quotes" among my notes!) As I surveyed the expressions around me it was obvious to see that we are all fond of this great man and that we cherish the wisdom he has passed along to us. He has built a wonderful ministry here! Peace, Doc.
There were three options for the afternoon: we could tour Focus on the Family, tour the Air Force Academy, or simply stay at the Summit and relax for the afternoon. I stayed here with several others so that I could catch a few winks, but the groups who toured had a great time! Our friends came back telling us of the warm atmosphere at Focus on the Family (also something about a gigantic slide...?), and others who toured the Air Force Academy talked about the glistening, majestic chapel there and the planes or jets they were able to see.
We had an amazing last supper! Roast beef, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole (KUDOS FOR THAT ONE!!), rolls, and a scrumptious oreo chocolate cheese cake... The cooks really went all out. It was delicous! Several of the parents had arrived already for graduation night and joined us for dinner. It was neat to look out and see the faces as their students showed them around the Summit.
Graduation began at 7 p.m. and we all filed into our rows for the last night of sitting with our seating buddies. Everyone looked sharp and fit for the occasion! Dr. Noebel was fabulously introduced, with several "Doc-isms" in the intro that had us rolling in laughter, and he entered with a standing ovation and cheers from all the students. He spoke to us about what America has done right, and as he spoke I realized how much we have learned in just two weeks. There was special music, speeches from a few students, and we enjoyed the treat of having the Staff choir sing to us.
Everyone met in the dining hall for ice cream tonight after Graduation, and it was a fun time of fellowship and about a million camera flashes as people were chased down to take "one last picture!!!" The smiling faces and warm embraces were evidence of more than just a world of knowledge gained in two weeks... But lasting friendships, as well.
I come away from this session with knowledge and resources that I am anxious to use in the future. I feel better prepared now that I have a deeper understanding of Worldviews, History, Politics, Leadership, Science, Philosophy, and so many other areas I am sure to face as I continue my college education. The speakers' passion to help us "light our world" with the truth has encouraged and enabled us to do just that.
Summit Session 3, 2007! You were truly unique and wonderful. I am grateful God allowed me to be here again.
