Session 2 | Day 1—So it begins…

After spending an entire session at Summit I have found that my definition of "day" is slightly messed up. Night Watch does that to a man (or woman). I've never considered myself a "night person," but I think I've mostly adjusted to my new work schedule of 10pm–4am each day. I will admit, however, that I still suffer pangs of envy as I send the (fortunate) Summit staff to bed each night at midnight.

I woke up at quarter to three this afternoon to discover that the Summit hotel was undergoing an influx of new students—just over 180 if I'm not mistaken. After making myself presentable, I stumbled from the darkness that is my room and began assisting our new resident scholars as they conveyed their life possessions to their rooms.

Dinner was pretty normal, which around here means the food was simply fantastic. Jason and Abby led worship to start off the Summit program. Doc (Dr. David Noebel) then took over with a solid welcome and introduction to the week. Staff introductions were soon accomplished and we divided up into our small groups.

There are 7 of us in my small group—and it's a good one. Tonight we told a bit about ourselves—who we are, where we've been, and where we're going. This is the first Summit experience for each of the guys in my group! Overall they were excited to experience whatever this Summit thing was about, and are hoping to have their faith strengthened. That, my friends… is going to happen!

The students were properly sent to bed at 11 tonight, and the staff banished to their respective domiciles at midnight. That leaves us with just Night Watch—We watch the night…
